Question on banner advertisements

Hello everyone, wishing you a great start to the final month of 2021!

I have a question regarding banner advertisements. What I mean by banner advertisements are those that hang out on the right-hand side of a webpage which show up on every page of a website.

I would like to include an affiliate link on a banner advertisement. However, the WA training mentions that we do not want to get our site flagged as a depository of links for for visitors to click away from. That's why we are taught to include all of our links in review articles and to link to these articles from other articles we write.

My question is: Can I include an affiliate link in a banner advertisment on the side of my page? Or would that negatively impact my rankings?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Erick

Yes, you can do banner ads. I've seen people successfully employ more than one on a page as well. Each affiliate program normally gives you the code for an approved banner ad which includes your affiliate ID as well.

Thanks for your answer Jeannine :)

Hi - having one banner will be fine. Just be aware that banner advertisements do not convert as well as actually having a review of a product.

And if somebody is viewing your site on mobile, the sidebar goes to the very bottom of your website, so they may not even see your banner unless they scroll a long way down.

Hi Diane, thanks, as always, for your insight! I hadn't thought about how the experience would change on mobile.
