Why I Love Negative Comments on My Content

Why I Love Negative Comments on My Content

When you spend hours filming, editing, and uploading a video for YouTube (or researching, editing, and publishing an article for your website), and you finally hit Publish there's a real feeling of accomplishment that comes over you.

Then, before you know it, the first comments start popping up.
But instead of "Great job!" or "I love this!", it's"This is a scam! " and "You have no idea what you're talking about!"

So what's your first instinct?
(Be honest).
Of course you want to delete it, right?

Me?
I love it. Because that hater just did me a massive favor.

I've been on a kick lately using metaphors from my job as a fire captain and here's a perfect one:

Fire needs three things to burn: heat, fuel, and oxygen.
In our world of affiliate marketing, trust me when I say that engagement is the oxygen.

The algorithm doesn't have a "feelings" sensor. It doesn't know if a comment is totally on your side or saying you don't know what you're talking about.

All it knows is your content has sparked a reaction.

Think about the entire purpose of you creating content. You need it to reach people. You want it to illicit an action. You want people engaging with it.

And when more people react and engage all it sees is:“Hey, people are talking about this! Let’s show it to more people.”

I’ve had videos on my YouTube channel that totally exploded all because of one person’s negative comment. That negative comment turned into thousands of extra views and literally thousands of dollars in my pocket.

Don't take a negative comment personally. As long as it's not filled with expletives or totally unhinged it's a great opportunity for you to respond with tact and authority.

Don't shy away from your stance.
Double down on it with a "Oh I was waiting for a comment like this. I'll give you a second to grab your pen and paper so you can take notes cuz class is about to be in session..." and then hit them with the logic behind your point of view.

I guarantee they'll reply back.
If you're lucky, so will all their friends.

Then you just sit back, reply to each one, and let the algorithm do its thing.

I love negative comments.

Now go create some good content!
YOU GOT THIS!
