Dream with your eyes open

While watching the TV show The Voice, One of the judges said "Dream with your eyes open".

I found this statement to be insightful. I started thinking about the people I hear taking about doing this or that, or how they wish for this or that. As I thought more about it, I started to realize that these type of people dream with their eyes shut; Not literally but figuratively. They see "visions" of dreams but fail to see THE DREAM. They jump in blind with no direction or concept of a dream only a Silhouette, a vision of an idea of dreams; "I want lots of money, or I want to travel to Italy". These to me are examples of a wide array of notions of dreams instead of seeing THE DREAM. They fail to see themselves in THEIR own restored, two story Villa in Tuscany, sitting with a glass of red wine looking out over their 100 acre vineyard and watching their family having fun running around with their German Shepherd and enjoying life.

If they do see A DREAM, when they see the path and the journey that must be taken to reach the dream they start to get weak in the knees. When they see how the journey can be daunting, scary, uncertain and the cost that will or may be involved, they get discouraged and excuses start to arise. This is where they are dreaming with their eyes shut. This is where they are self prophecying and fail to realize that they need to take a breath, take a step back and take it one step at a time, one goal and milestone at a time. They need to realize there will be ups and downs but if they stay the path, find the right education, tools and mentors and keep their fortietude they can turn a dream into a reality...Then they can Dream with their eyes open.
