What Do You Do When You Feel Unmotivated?

Hi, WAers,

Over the last few weeks I've really had to force myself to sit down and work on my sites. There's so much going on in my life right now that it's hard to stay focused.

Personal problems inevitably affect other areas of our lives. When we feel troubled at work, in some way or another we "suck it up" since we need the money to survive. Therefore, we try to keep our jobs. However, when it's something else like working on a site, it's not always easy to continue, especially when it seems you haven't accomplished much.

My family and close friends don't seem to understand what I'm doing (neither am I at times tbh). They may have the best intentions and try to motivate me but deep down I know they're not sincere. That's why I try not to tell other people about my plans or projects.

I'm into my first year in WA, and I've had a lot of ups and downs. I have learned a lot and met some wonderful people, but other than that, I feel frustrated and unmotivated to say the least. My results have been negligible. I read about others' success stories and feel happy for them, but it's not comforting at all. What have I done wrong? Have I been wasting my time? Is it time to quit and move on?

Well, sorry for venting out. I just needed to do it. By the way, what do you do when you feel unmotivated? I know I'm not alone. Let me know in the comments below.

Thanks for reading.

Your question on motivation crosses everyone's minds here at WA. My answer is: what motivated us in the first place to join WA?

I am going to claim that it was not for fame. Neither was it to become the best author around. It is for the anticipated INCOME.

So after a year, two years and we see no incomes, we start to wonder what the heck we are doing here.

So....to all of you out there who knows how income is created here at WA....this might help re-ignite the dying motivations of many people if we can inject some fresh new ideas.

Thank you.

Joe

My thoughts exactly. We're here to make an income. We're aware we won't probably become rich, but money is an issue. Whom are we trying to fool? :D

As the success rate of Mom and Pop stores is very low, I would say that the success rate of making money in affiliate marketing could be along the same levels. It is when we become the small percentage of those who make money that things could change dramatically BUT.....

Joe

Oh Enrique,
Feeling your pain right now. I too find similar obstacles, especially when I read others ”progress reports” weekly, monthly and yearly, whereas I feel embarrassed about my lack of progress. However I watched the wonderful ”Income Scool” guys who talk (frequently) about the ”Ghost Town” that is the period of signing up, starting your website, doing loads of work but seeing zero interaction and even when there is it has a bounce rate of 100%

If the comments and support from the WAmily fail to lift your spirits then I urge you to go onto You Tube and type in Income school Ghost Town and they will make you feel you are still worthy, they will show you why you shouldn't quit, how nearly every single one of us (even those who seem to be successful) have felt just like you do at one time or another. They are actually called Income School Project 24, that's because they recognize it can easily take 24 months

The very fact there are successes in our community means WA is a reliable ethical platform. The only one who can make this happen is you.

I find watching You Tube Vids Of successful bloggers helps, but what really really helps is go back to the start of said successful bloggers and watch their journey. It can and does take them 2-3 years. And it's all there to watch.

A year in the scheme of things is small

I am finding some days a real struggle but as long as I do one thing on my website I don't feel I have totally wasted my day

Hi, Cordelia,

Glad to hear from you. It's been a long time!

That sounds really interesting. I've read a few success stories and seen a few videos as well. They all agree it takes time, although not all of them are quite specific about it.

Now that you mention the bounce rate, it's undesirably high. I've reached as high as 90%!

My traffic has been variable with a few spikes here and there but unfortunately zero sales.

The speed of my sites is bad, and honestly, I have run out of ideas to fix that. I've tried all I've come across.

I wish I made at least a few sales...coffee money they call it. That would definitely help me to continue and rest assured I'm headed in the right direction. By the way, if you don't mind my asking, have you made any sales yet? Or is it just me? 😢

I will check those videos you recommend and hopefully, I'll find some inspiration.

Thanks!! 😊

Hi,

Like you, my bounce rate is very high, my organic traffic is low, and no sales yet on my first website, however, it only has 32 posts. Back in May I lost my way, I started to feel over and underwhelmed, I would continuallykept read about all the various kind of successes from other members which was both encouraging and demotivating , ”Landing Pages” ”Funnels” ”ebooks” referrals etc.
I needed to re group go back to basics, my first website was always going to be a practice site and one I would probably make little money from, I felt it time to begin a new site, especially during lockdown when I would have more time.

Will send the rest in a private message

I like the saying "one step at a time." Try to find something that interests you the most. Writing about that something will get you motivated. It's true that when most people feel unmotivated, they're lacking of ideas. Think about this for a second. Every successful people out there have one thing in common. That one thing is an idea to get them moving. Without the idea of interests, they would be stagnant and would spiral downwards. It's like giving a person a hammer and a nail. If the person doesn't have an idea of what to do with a hammer and a nail, then it'll just be a hammer and a nail in his/her possession as it will be useless. Take care friend. All the best!

Hey,

I'm afraid that's not precisely my case. I love writing and I love my niche as well. What frustrates me is that my site is not generating any revenue. That's why many people quit their passions. You may love doing something, but that's not always enough. Passion alone doesn't pay any bills. I understand generating a full-time income can take years, but when you realize you haven't made a single sale after a year, well, that's discouraging.

I understand. But here's the case with the hammer and the nail. If you now in your area, that they need a carpenter for putting up wooden fences, it would be wise to learn how to use that hammer and nail to do fencing. The point is your niche may not attract the need of others who are looking for that affiliated product.
It could also be your web copy/ad copy is not making your visitors take action. One hint I can tell you right now is that, the digital info industry is pretty high up at the moment. It is a very broad area to dive into. I'm just stating the facts, due to a global pandemic. All the best!

Thank you. I do understand your point. Honestly, I don't know what to think anymore. As you said, the digital industry is highly competitive nowadays. I guess I'll try to figure something out.
Thanks.

Maybe we can help you start generating some results from your sites. Nothing like making some sales to generate motivation.

I just read an entire article on your site about Mexico, and the only link was to another article on the same site. No affiliate links at all. Hard to sell something without a link to a merchant.

How are you planning to monetize your sites?

Hi, Jeannine,

I do have affiliate links, just not in all my posts. In fact, my posts with the most visits have affiliate links, but no sales have been generated yet.
Amazon suspended my account and I'm not planning to re-apply anytime soon. In the meantime, I mostly depend on programs such as Expedia, Booking, and the like.

Glad to hear you've pivoted away from Amazon. They treat affiliates so badly! So are you making money with the other programs?

Not yet :/ That's what's bugging me.

Then maybe we need to work on that part!

This is a safe place to vent, Enrique! When I am feeling motivated, I double down and work on something else, something fortunately, that I am able to do since I purposely have so much on my plate!

Jeff

Hey, Jeff,

I can see that. Breaks are needed every now and then.

Thanks, my friend.

You bet, Enrique! You are doing well! Keep going and you WILL succeed!

Jeff

Fingers crossed!

That's all we can do, Enrique, and keep taking those small steps forward when and where we can!

Jeff
