Social Media – Once you’ve been found, stay visible!

Today I would like to have a look at how to set up your social media framework.

Is it wise to use a different profile name on the different social media platforms or is it better to have the same name used throughout?

If we use different names across social media platforms, then a follower who found us on Facebook, might not be able to find us on Twitter unless he/she has a link. However, if we use the same name throughout, then a follower will only have to find one profile and they will be able to guess all our other social media profiles. I also think that it is to our advantage to use the same profile picture throughout all social media in order for our followers to be sure that they have the profile they were looking for.

I have not seen a lot of people getting this one right. Of course there is not just one way of doing it, but once I've shared my thoughts with you I’m sure you might want to have another look at your setup.

I believe that the same profile name and the same profile picture give the follower a sense of security. It shows that you are established in your thinking and that you are planning on sticking around. It does also show that you value your brand and you will not do foolish things because you have a lot to loose. On the other hand different names and different profile pictures give the sense of I don't really care because if something goes wrong, I will just choose another name or another picture. It gives the sense that you don't have a valued brand.

Even before you start your setup, it is important to make sure that your desired profile name is available on all social media platforms and maybe also the domain. When deciding on a name, we have to consider that Twitter has a limitation of 13 characters, so best choosing a name not more than 13 characters. It is important to choose a name that represents you and a name that you can build a brand with, something that will stand the test of time.

So to illustrate when you advertise, instead of giving your details as:

You can just say:

I trust that this will be helpful.
