A Bizarre Story
What Happened?
The story I am about to share was bizarre. And it involved two little girls, my twins, named Katie and Haley!
Katie and Haley were between 4 and 5 yrs. of age. We were living at the Dayton house.
That day, I stayed home from work because the girls didn't have daycare for that day. I remember being sort of lazy on the couch and then remembering that I had to go out to the barn to feed the horses.
Katie and Haley were playing together, and I told them I had to go to the barn and would be back after feeding the horses.
They seemed fine and involved in their play that I didn't even think twice that it might be a problem for them to be alone in the house.
How Could I Be So Wrong?
Boy, was I wrong about that! I fed the horses and came back into the house. I yelled that I was there, and I heard them chattering between themselves.
Then, out of the blue, I heard the doorbell ring. I went to the door, and to my surprise, there were several police cars and policemen at our house. I was in my p.j. 's, and I looked like I had just rolled out of bed.
I must have looked bewildered because the policeman asked if I was okay and then proceeded to tell me that there had been a 911 call from our house and that when they called back, it was busy like the phone was off the hook.
I thought to myself, what is going on? I never thought that Katie and Haley would call 911, but as the officer talked to me, I realized that those little stinkers were the guilty parties.
I went upstairs to get the girls, hiding in the closet. They knew they were in trouble! I took them by the hand and walked them downstairs to talk with the policeman.
Two Girls, All Of A Sudden Shy!
They would not look at the policeman while he was talking, but he asked them if either of them had dialed 911. They both were silent and refused to answer, but their silence was complicit!
The officer told them that it was great that they knew how to dial 911, but they had to know when it was okay to dial 911. He gave them many examples of emergencies, and they nodded their heads as they looked at the floor.
The officer was very kind in explaining the problem and told them that he knew they would follow 911. I had never seen two little girls so quiet in my life! They learned a big lesson that day.
Of course, the story's telling has pointed fingers of blame at the other twin over the years. They would not take ownership of this one.
Today, I look back at this and smile because it was about two naive little girls who had no idea their actions would cause such a tremendous response. It was an excellent way for them to learn!
Aww, the memories!

A humorous story, and I'm sure your girls will never forget it!
Still don’t know which one dialed. Mum’s the word!
