How Do You React When Things Don’t Work Out?

Yesterday actually was a good day. Now it could have turned out differently if I had gave into my emotions of frustration and anger. I had to rethink about what was happening at the time.

You see I had an appointment at 2pm. It was a 17-mile ride from my house, not to bad. I got there at 1:30. One of my pet peeves is that I hate to be late so I always try to be early.

It gives me time to relax and I don’t feel rushed. It also gives me time to pray and ask for guidance from The Lord before I proceed.

Well 15 mins. after 2 still no show. By 2:30 I’m checking my email, missed call or text messages ( I don’t always have my phone up). Nothing!

Now I’m scrambling looking for a phone number to see what’s going on. Call customer service and they inform me that the business is still closed due to COVID 19 and will open in June.

He said no one called you or emailed you, and I’m like uh no. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing I drove all this way for nothing. Deep breath.

I’m like wow when I make my appointment earlier, I was told you would be open. Nevertheless, I had to make another appointment for June. Told I would get an email conformation just like last time.

As I was sitting in my truck I was starting to get upset. Another deep breath. Did a Martin Lawrence like in Bad Boys “Woosah!” Lease the tension it’s going to be alright.

Then I got to thinking I’ve been cooped up in the house for the past week. This gave me a chance to get out on this bright sunny day and take a nice little drive.

On the way up I singing, saying some Biblical confessions and listening to the Book of John on CD. It was okay then and it okay now. Besides I did plan to run some other errands while I was out.

Thus, I took control of my thoughts and made it a great day.

So how do you react when things don’t go quite right? Do you get upset or make the best of the situation?

You made lemonade out of lemons ha! good for you Eric.

Like you, then I find my time was wasted through no fault of mine, I initially get upset. But then I realize the only person who is negatively affected by my attitude is me.

I then look for reasons to be happy. And there is so much to be happy about, I soon forget the inconvenience.

Thanks for this awesome reminder. It is our choice to react negatively or positively. And we should select the latter.

Cheers.

Edwin

Yes easy to go to the dark side, but it's better to stay in the light.

I have had to learn to avoid stress so have self taught myself to take a breath always and just move on.

Great post by the way.

Andy.

Thanks Andy indeed stress is a killer stay healthy.

Thanks for sharing Eric.. Yes, I pray too when things go wrong, it helps me

Phil

Prayer changes things!

Amen bro, Amen

Hi there, I totally love your post!
First of all, I am exactly like you. I am always on time, EARLY 99%
of the time, so to avoid traffic, etc.
I am always prepared, just like you. I listen and pray before my appointments.

This has happened to me, a few times, and yes it doesn't go well with me, at all! If I can prepare to be on time, people should have the common courtesy and professionalist to contact you if there is a change... RIGHT??? It only seems normal and courteous to do.

Funny, I am a driver for sure. I blow off the steam by driving to the closest beach, as I am an ocean lover, and I find peace to calm my temper. lol... you are not alone my friend.

I will say, praying tends to bring me back to my soft spot real quick.

Have a blessed day, stay focused, and wishing you success on your journey.

Carla

Thanks Carla I appreciate your comment. It's so good to hear from like minded people. Stay blessed.

You did it right Eric. I know that sometimes there is an urge to react badly but I always try to look at the bright side of things. In the end my stress levels stay nice and low.
Saying to myself "Have a blessed day anyway" has been a great encouragement to me many times in the past.
Ray

Yes indeed!
