The Fantasy of the Inchworm

Yesterday when I opened my profile page, I discovered that my rank had fallen under the 200 mark (197). Today, it's back to 201 even though I worked most of the day, yesterday on this blog. I understand the value of blogging. I still find it a very arduous task for me. I appreciate that I continue to be reminded that it will get better with practice, but, to my chagrin, it continues to be challenging for me.

You should not understand this as a complaint, but rather that I want to share with those who may be having the same problem, that I am committed to perseverance in the matter. It may be that I will not be as articulate or prolific as others but I fully intend to keep on keeping on, and I hope you will, too. By the way, for what it's worth, I am encouraged and excited with my rankings.

While continuing to be active in participating in community matters, I will also focus on developing my website. After all, a primary reason for starting an online business was and is to help supplement my income. At the same time, I hope to be helpful to those who drop in to visit.

As I puzzled over the movement in my rankings, I was reminded of a fantasy to which I was introduced when I was a child. I will call it 'the fantasy of the inchworm.' It suggested that if I found an inchworm crawling somewhere on my clothing, it meant that the creature was measuring me for a new item or maybe even a new suit of clothes. To my dismay, it never worked. How happy I would have been if it had, but it didn't; it was just that - a fantasy.

So what does the inchworm have to do with rankings at Wealthy Affiliate? Try this. Rankings are designed to encourage participation in the WA community, helping one another in the community by asking and answering questions, sharing in discussions, blogging, etc. Each time we contribute in this way, we mimic the inchworm. He doesn't travel very fast (an inch at a time?) But he does what he does methodically until he gets where he is going.

It is possible that sometimes we might be tempted to think or even worry that our progress and success here at Wealthy Affiliate is just a fantasy. It is not! This program has been working for others for years and it will work for you. The ranking system here at WA is an inchworm that measures that progress and those successes.

Rankings, no doubt, mean different things to different people, but I know when I am commended for 'a job well-done,' I am very grateful and encouraged.

Ranking is only one of the small inchworms that is built into the program, however. Wealthy Affiliate provides integrated and detailed training for any and every aspect of the business. We have capable and caring Ambassadors and community who stand ready to offer their help at a moments notice. We have a plethora of training blogs to help us along the way. And, of course, we have access to our founders' advice and counsel.

Of course, I have only just begun to know and appreciate all that this program offers, but I want to give a BIG SHOUT OUT FOR MY RANKING OF 197, and for each and every inchworm that helps me stay on track and encouraged.

Let me just add this. As I recall, I usually just flicked the inchworm off my clothing as I did not really believe in the fantasy. I am thinking that it would be easy to do the same thing with this word of encouragement to appreciate all that is being offered at Wealthy Affiliate...and at such an affordable cost.

By the way, I hate worms. But I hope you might use this analogy born out of my experience to give you renewed hope and determination.

Let me close with these lyrics from Danny Kaye's musical work:

Inch worm, inch worm; Measuring the marigolds
Could it be, you stop and see; How beautiful they are

Happy measuring.

An excellent analogy and story to remind us all that this isn't a race Earl. Thanks for sharing this bit.

I also struggle with writing, and with each post remind myself that this will one day get easier. You are definitely not alone in this regard.

I never head the fable of the inchworm, I enjoy those types of stories. 🙂

Well, Cynthia, now you have. It's just something from my childhood memories. Thank you so much for your comments. Always appreciated!

Very great post and congratulations

Thank you, Dorrie. Your comments are always appreciated!
