Plugins for multilingual sites
When we talk of an online market of 4 billion people, of course they are not all talking the same language so today I want to talk about website translation and multilingual sites and some plugins that enable those.
A while ago I posted a question in a class because I wondered if it was possible to translate the Wordpress theme I would choose. Since I want my content to be in French, I want the theme to be in French as well. By that I mean the words that come by default when you choose a theme.
I got several interesting answers about plugins mainly to translate website content. Researching the feasability of a French website, I asked some francophones if they had their sites in French or in English. One answered English only and the other a bilingual site. So I researched plugins for multilingual sites.
I learned some plugins allow for automatic translation only and I won't talk about these because I find automatic translation decreases readability.
Here are plugins that allow you to have your website in different languages and the different languages on different pages. Also, these plugins allow for your reader to get the page or article in another language if it exists. If it doesn't exist, your reader will be redirected to the home page in the other language.
WPML (premium)
Polylang (freemium)
MultilingualPress (free)
WeGlot (freemium)
In conclusion, if you have a website and you would like to enlarge your audience by adding a language, one of the above plugins may help you!
And, by the way, if you want to translate your theme in another language, you can do so in the general settings in your Wordpress dashboard for your site.
Happy translation!
