Video Content 101: Basic Tools & Tips for Beginners
If you're thinking about adding video to your affiliate marketing strategy but aren’t sure where to start... don’t worry, you’re not alone. I was nervous when I hit record for the first time too. But video has become a powerful (and fun!) way to build trust, explain products, and connect with an audience on a whole new level.
Here’s a quick checklist of beginner-friendly tools and tips to help you get started with confidence:
1. Start Simple with Your Equipment
You don’t need a fancy studio. Use what you have:
- Phone camera – Modern smartphones shoot great quality.
- Tripod or stand – Keeps your shot steady.
- Lighting – Natural light is your best friend! Face a window for clear, flattering lighting.
2. Use Screen Recording Tools for Tutorials
If you're creating walkthroughs or product tutorials, these are extremely helpful:
- OBS Studio (free & powerful)
- Loom (easy browser-based option)
- PowerDirector 365 (my personal favorite for editing + effects)
3. Keep Your First Videos Short & Focused
A simple 2–3 minute video with one clear tip or review is a perfect place to begin. You’ll improve with every upload, so don’t worry about perfection. Just be yourself and share value.
4. Add a Clear Call-to-Action
For instance, try using CTA's like “check out my blog,” “grab this freebie,” or “leave a comment.” Just make sure your viewer knows what to do next. Keep it conversational and helpful.
5. Repurpose That Content!
Once your video is live, use it across other platforms:
- Embed it in a blog post
- Share it on Pinterest, Instagram, or YouTube Shorts
- Create a WA blog or training video
Final Thoughts
Video builds trust faster than any other content format I’ve used. Don't worry about it being ultra polished either. It just has to be you!! So if you’ve been waiting for the perfect time to hit record, this is it!
Have you started creating video content yet? I’d love to hear what tools or platforms you’re using or what’s holding you back. Let’s swap tips and cheer each other on!

Thanks EH. This good for me. I know nothing about video. I’m going to try those programs you posted and get a stand for my iPhone. -Shirley
Hello Shirley,
I don't know if this helps, Shirley, but I prefer to create videos on my PC. I appreciate that everyone's situation and niche is different, but creating videos where I share my screen, seems to work for me. You see my above comment to Elizabeth.
Wishing you all the best.

Good morning Elizabeth,
Thank you for your blog post.
Different things work for different people, depending on what their niche is. The majority of my videos are created using screen capture software, I use Camtasia, in fact I have used it for years. Sometimes I will create a video on my phone, if I'm out and about, but I will then import it to Camtasia for editing.
I almost find it easier to create a video than I do to write a blog post.
Have a great day.
Roy
I also find using screen capture is one of the best ways for me to film videos and share value with others. The screen capture lets people see exactly what to do and gives them a visual when words don't always convey the message clearly. I have never used Camtasia, but I have heard great things about it.
I know there are lots of video capture tours out there, but I can certainly recommend Camtasia. When I first started online, it appeared that Camtasia was the main screen capture tool, but there is more choice now! However, I'm going to stick with what I know.
Have a great day.
Roy
