If You Had to Start Over Today, What Would You Do Differently?
One of the things I love about affiliate marketing is that we’re all learning as we go. No matter how long you’ve been at this, there’s always something you pick up that makes you think, “Wow, I wish I’d known that sooner.”
Looking back on my own journey, there are definitely a few things I’d do differently if I were starting from scratch:
- I’d pick one main traffic source to master first instead of trying to do everything at once.
- I’d spend more time understanding my audience before worrying about monetizing.
- I’d be more consistent with content instead of overthinking every little detail.
If I had to begin again today, my very first priority would be creating helpful content consistently. Even before fancy tools or paid ads. Just showing up and building trust.
I’d love to hear from you:
If you were starting over today, what would you do differently?
What’s the first thing you’d focus on to set yourself up for success?
Drop your thoughts below and let’s swap lessons learned and help each other avoid those early mistakes.

I would be more patient. Treat my first several niches as learning experiences rather than worrying about making money
I think that's one thing that so many of us can relate to. It’s so easy to put pressure on that first niche to be “the one,” but you’re right those early attempts are often where the real learning happens.
Everyone comes here with $$$ signs in their eyes. It’s normal and human nature. But I believe the ones who succeed here, are the ones who look at it as building a business.
For instance, my affiliate marketing site is in the toilet right now. But I’m waiting on a $3500 check from a client and we’re meeting today to discuss ways of future interaction.
Up until last month, $300 was a good month for affiliate marketing. A lot of people here would love to be there. But it’s really about figuring things out how things work and darn it that just takes time.
I'd have started with my recently discovered strategy, sell two of my extra hosting plots to pay for my membership fee.
But I still have that chance right now, and it works. No regrets at all.
John
I'd be more constant and most of all, I wouldn't have given up. The thing with me waas: I had aa mission but not a vision. So I always felt stuck.
Having a mission without a clear vision can definitely make it feel like you’re spinning your wheels. I’ve been there too! But the fact that you did come back and are showing up now says a lot about your determination. Every step forward counts, and your story can inspire others who’ve felt stuck too.

Hi Elizabeth! I'd probably only do 1 website and niche, not 5 of them. But, I already had the 2 horse websites.
I had decided not to use my newest horse website for much affiliate marketing bc I couldn't find the products I wanted then.
Maybe I could have done them, but I got into survival stuff...
Oh, well :)
I would also spend more time trying to get traffic.
