Yes it is the right step. Sometimes a niche is right in front of you. Start writing about things in a document and a niche may pop out at you. I started my niche on my health problem for my first site. It help me learn how to build a site and build content. Just start writing about things you like and ideas will start flowing. Give it a try.

we spoke the other day in your discussion on non intrusive monetized links. I hope you don't mind me getting in touch via your profile page but I on more small question for you.

in your example you used golfing equipment (burner driver to be exact) now would you have done some keyword research before writing your description and how many words would you be looking to write for each product that you promote.

I would do a keyword search for about 5 words and phrases that I could use if I was going to write a long 300-500 word article, but for the example that I used as a recommendation for the driver, I would just link significant words like Burner Driver and price in the short example.
Make the words relevant to the article that you are writing and don't use any more that 3 to 5 words and phrases so you don't get accused of stuffing the article with keywords, in other words, spamming!
