Pages vs Posts

When I first started using WordPress I was really confused as to how Pages and Posts were different and why it really mattered.

Here is a quick explanation:

Pages:

The content on Pages is static. Pages are organized in a hierarchical fashion and cannot be categorized or tagged. Pages are not generally intended to be shared socially (although sometimes they are). Some examples of what kind of pages are typical are the About Page, Privacy Policy, Getting Started, FAQ, etc.

Posts:

The content on posts is Dynamic. Posts or organized by being placed in categories and/or by being tagged with certain words or phrases. Posts are designed to be highly social and are able to be shared across all social media platforms. Generally most content published on websites is in the form of a Post.

This is just a brief description of the difference between Pages and Posts. If you would like a more in-depth description along with some images further clarifying the difference please check out my original post on my website here. Drop me a comment if as well if you wish!

Hope everyone is having a good productive weekend!

Basically your thought are right. But this concerns only blogs and some of us have very commercial websites, where pages may be static but have another goal to reach than only basic information. Posts are volatile, pages are part of the Corporate Identity and even of your blog branding.

Yeah I definitely agree! I actually mentioned that these were just basic guidelines and they can all be modified to your heart's content briefly in the actual post on my website. I guess it didn't make the cut in this posts (or I forgot).

I have seen websites that do all kinds of crazy things with pages and posts alike and make it work well!
