About Dstegall
Joined February 2016
I've been online since 2005 in the Christian scrapbooking niche. Since then Christian companies have gone out of business and "faith" lines have been discontinued. I finally let it go in 2013, leaving the site up for resources. Since then I've been trying various sites mostly in the scrapbooking niche, but haven't had the success I'm wanting. I'm hoping Wealthy Affiliate is the place to get me on track to where I want to be!

Success is very cumulative in nature. Every action you take will add up to a much greater success. I can tell you that when you earn your first money, it will all become very REAL and it will lead to much more success.

Personally it took me a couple of months to get there (to earn my first dime), but by month 6 I was earning a consistent income. That is likely what your journey will look like...stay persistent and ask for help when you need it. I am in your "corner" every step of the way Dawn! :)

I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?". lol

I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

Get back at me! :)

You sure about that? I bet you get bombarded with questions. But you are right, I am a little stuck on a niche. If you wouldn't mind reading my reply to Steve....

Thanks soo much!

If you have any specific questions do let know.

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

I want to help people that ______________.

Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :)

I'm still working on my niche. I want to help people find affordable solutions for their home. As we renovate our home, I want to share our progress as well as inspiration boards. I was thinking of "granite girl on a laminate budget". I would share a more expensive option, then an affordable alternative. (similar style, color, size)

My biggest concern now is keywords. For example, reclaimed wood console table according to WA keyword tool has 552 searches, 146 results and 8.6 article power. Seems good. Then I type into Google and get 536,000 searches. I asked in chat and kind of understand that. But the first page of Google is ads, images, then popular product sites like Wayfair, Overstock.com, etc. So this has me thinking it isn't a good keyword. This example is pretty much the same results for everything I have tried. So I'm stuck on what to do.

Thanks for your help!

I would recommend that you start with a particular room, targeting the "entire" house is big undertaking and I think you should narrow it down to a specific room as there is an absolute TON of stuff you could target within that.

There will be 10,000's of things you can discuss, questions people are asking, products people are buying, etc..in one room alone.

Hey Dawn and welcome to Wealthy Affiliate!

My name is Steve and I'm the owner of IveTriedThat. You signed up through me and I thought I'd tell you a little about myself. I joined Wealthy Affiliate back in 2009, over 5 years ago. I was looking to learn how to supplement my income through Internet Marketing and what I've found was so much more.

By 2010, I was working full-time from home. These days, ALL of my income comes from my ventures online. In fact, my wife just recently quit her job to start her own business as well. Internet Marketing and Wealthy Affiliate have provided us with amazing opportunities (we've bought a house, get to travel the world, and best of all, no longer spend time "going to work") and I'm incredibly thankful to the training, tools, and support here that made it all possible. :)

I'd love for you to see the same level of success. So, if you ever have any questions or need a hand with anything, do not hesitate to get in touch with me. I am here to help!

To get started, you should add a short description and upload a picture. Wealthy Affiliate is a community and having a profile and a picture will really help get you acquainted here.

Anyways, thought I would just introduce myself. If there's anything I can do for you Dawn, just let me know!

Cheers!

Steve

Thanks Steve! I have been asking some question in the live chat this morning. But I wanted to ask a question in reference to your article.

I've read your article "My Top 5 Niche Picks" several times. The first time, I was thinking about my current site in the scrapbooking niche and was actually surprised it met the 4 criterias. However, I think I'm done with that. I really don't want to have to take photos and feel the need to constantly create new projects. After struggling for 11 years, it is time to move on.

Anyway, I read the article again and the Home Inspiration/Renovation niche really caught my eye. We just started renovating our basement and I'm currently addicted to HGTV. I would want to focus more on the inspiration part. My concern is categories and keywords. It seems to broad a niche, yet I would want to include the entire home and not just say the "light fixtures" or "wall decals". What are your thoughts on this?

I was thinking I could create a post sharing my current outdated light fixture photo with my top 10 picks, encourage some comments on which one I should choose. Then in a later post, reveal the one I chose with the "after" photo. Of course, I can't do this everyday and would need other content. I have ideas for curating inspiration pieces on various long tail keywords. Am I on the right track? Do I just trust the process knowing I'll learn when I get to that lesson? I'm at the point in the lesson where I start building my site. I'm a backwords thinker and feel the need to brainstorm my categories, keywords, etc. before building.

Also I already have hosting and a theme I like. I don't think I have to use WA, so I just continue through the lessons and apply to my own?

Sorry for all the questions, I just like to plan and map things out before jumping in. However, I'm on the edge about ready to jump!
