It is Not What You Are That Holds You Back, It is What You Think You Are Not

When you look at yourself, what do you see?

We all have the seeds of greatness within us, however there are many factors that hold us back from being all that we can be.

Belief in ourselves and our abilities is the greatest springboard to achieving all that we desire in life. However, more often then not, it is our internal recordings that determine how far we really go in life.

When you look at people who have reached the top of their field, more often then not there is a common thread that is within each of those individuals. They do not think about what they are not, or what they can not do. They do not place limitations upon themselves about what they can achieve.

I know in my life, I have had many thoughts about what I am not. I have looked at others and what they have achieved and reached in their lives and then compared myself and wondered why I have not reached my level of success that I believed I should have. Self defeat and failure has pulled me down and kept me from believing in my own abilities. It has stolen so much from my life that it really now pisses me off to realize that I have allowed the thinking process of "It's what you think you are not", to keep me from moving forward in life many times.

These repeated thought processes have been very detrimental to my life, and robbed me from the desired success i have wished to attain.

We all face set backs and challenges, that if we choose, and allowed to build up over time, can steal or stunt our ability to move forward. It can steal dreams, and take us into a drifting through life mode that settles for what we have instead of striving for what we want..

You don't have to look to far around you to see that this is a big fat lie that we feed ourselves. There are thousands and thousands of stories of people who have overcome great adversity and difficult situations and yet they have moved on to amazing success in their lives.

So what is the real driving factor here?

It is what you think you are not, and the training of the mind to keep replaying that message over and over in our minds that slowly builds up and stunts our ability to believe in ourselves and chase our dreams and goals.

When I look back through my life, I now realize that this may be the biggest barrier that has held me back. It is not money, or education, or bad luck. It is simply the thought process of how I have chosen To devalue myself when challenges have come.

Unworthiness runs deep in our society. It comes from many things and can be traced back to our childhood more often then not. It could have been ingrained into us by our parents and how they talked and treated us. It could have been from our peers when we were in school. It could be from seeing people in our towns and cities who seemingly just have more material things then our families did.

The list here can go on and on when it comes to situations that have created this thinking of "Its What you think you are not". It didn't happen overnight, however as the message gets reinforced, it certainly also gets stronger. I have experienced this myself and sometimes it has taken very little to kick start this message in my mind, and when it has it can have a devastating effect on how I think about myself and the world around me.

The first step in changing this is to realize that this type of thinking exists in your own mind. Recognizing it is there and it has had many years to fester and grow within yourself.

Next, would be to realize this is a limitation you are placing on yourself that doesn't have to control the direction of today and your tomorrow. It is a lie that you and I have allowed to become a controlling force in our ability to move forward and to reach our dreams and goals.

Until we conqueror this monster, and slay this thought, then growth in ourselves will be halted and we are doomed to a life of turmoil and defeat.

If you recognize that these thoughts have impacted you, then great, you now can begin to battle this beast and begin the process of replacing those thoughts with life giving thoughts that will empower you to live a much fuller life.

It is a battle of the mind. However there is always a choice on what you choose to think about. The ability to choose a different thought that will slay those life draining thoughts is available. Now that you have recognized that the "It's what you think you are not" thought exists, you can begin to replace it!

You replace it with the truth of who you are and what you can attain!

You can take previous failures and replay the over and over to hold you back, or you can take previous successes and replay them over and over to reinforce your ability to move your life forward in the direction you wish to attain.

Imagination and Creativity...

What you see is what you will get. The power of the mind is amazing in this way!

We perform and behave in life, not according with reality, but in accordance with our perception of reality. Many of our decisions in life are based upon information about ourselves which has been stored as "truth", but which is really a combination of hearsay from family, friends, and peers, actual pas experiences, and information we read, listen to, and view on television or the internet! (From Denis Waitly's book the seeds of success)

All our experiences and what we allow into our minds will form our view of the world around us. Today with the internet it has vastly opened up much more in the way we view things. This has both positive and negative impacts upon our thought processes.
I believe it is critical to have critical thinking. To take time to formulate and interpret information that is bombarding us today.

A good example of this is how did cars become such a figure for status in our lives? We are marketed to and images are repeated through commercials so much that now what we drive determines who we are and peoples perception of who we are. The symbolism of the car and what it means has been driven into us so frequently that it has turned that perception into a reality for most people.

If an image or a perception is played long enough and repeatedly into our minds, over time that perception will evolve into a truth that is deeply imprinted into our minds.

I can say without a doubt this has happened in my own life. Past experiences that have repeated have created a tape that can instantly be recalled and replayed to shape my thoughts of today. Some bring joy and great feelings, others no so great images and perceptions have resulted in the stunt of my growth as a person. What I have perceived as failures and stored into my memory, have created a perception that has controlled my thoughts and formed them into a lie about who I am and where I am going or where I want to go. It is NOT real, however because I have nurtured that replay and stored it in my brain, it has become a powerful message that I have allowed to keep me down.

Sometimes it rises up so quickly and defeats me. It is amazing how these perceptions become a part of our reality, when in truth this is just not the case and does NOT have to be who we are today and who we will become tomorrow.

So how do we deal with these perceived past mind creations that are telling us who we are not?

Obviously, recognizing that they exist is the first step to shifting our thoughts away from this limiting beliefs and patterns.

I have read many self help books and books on success, and many talk about taking time to visualize the things we desire as already having them. Closing your eyes and using your mind to create these images is a gift God gave us. Being creative and allowing us to form any image we want is available to each and every human being on the planet. Doing this repeatedly on a consistent basis will over time defeat these past limiting beliefs we have formed. Those limiting beliefs are stored and have been formed over a long period of time and most likely will always be there in our minds, however utilizing the same force that created those limiting beliefs can be turned around to create new beliefs and images of who we are and what we will become.

However, before we can really visualize it, we must truly believe we deserve success.

This can be a huge stumbling block as we have self imposed though past experiences the thoughts that have been self-defeating.

So stop right now and tell yourself that you deserve success. Repeat this over and over.

Start each day this way. Each one of us are built beautifully with the ability to create and visualize.

There are no limits except the ones we accept. Don't accept them.

YOU deserve Success.

I deserve success.

It is not just about saying it, saying it will not change anything.

This is not a fake it till you make it. You and I must believe it!

Once we do,, we can then start the process of defeating and overcoming the past perceptions that crop up and tell us "It's What you think you are not"

You Deserve Success!
I Deserve Success!

I believe I deserve Success and I will Have it!
