Poverty Is It a Place or Mentality?

Poverty is a touchy subject to speak on, but the fact is that poverty is a reality for millions of people in the United States and across the world in general. Let’s look at some causes and effects of poverty.

Most people in poverty are desperate for work and are willing to do almost anything to alleviate the pains and hurt poverty brings, but the opportunities are far and few when people are in an impoverished environment.

Poverty is more than being from a place that is dirty, unkept, and desolate. Poverty has a mentality attached to it.

That mentality deals with people’s thoughts and feelings of worthlessness, hopelessness, and brokenness.

Not everyone is fortunate enough to come from privilege, but that shouldn’t stop us from going after our dreams and changing the outcome of our circumstances.

Being in poverty may not have been your fault, however staying there is. Getting out of poverty starts with changing your mindset first ( unless your a lucky person and you hit the lottery). A person has to change the way he/she views situations and circumstances.

Changing our minds is the key to overcoming almost anything. I believe it starts with a change in our thoughts which will lead to us changing our actions which in turn can lead to changing our environment.

This is just a snippet of my original blog but I felt that my WA family should share their comments and sentiments on the topic for those who haven't went to my page.

i agree with your post. If you come from one of the extremely poor countries in the world, it has to be awful difficult to find let alone get that first and second job. I could see that maintaining a positive attitude could and would be very difficult as compared to most of the people coming into WA. If you can't even get water in your country, improvements to your skills may be beyond your hopes.

I agree -- the start is to change your mindset, which can be much more difficult than it sounds. Once you can think about yourself in kinder terms, you can easier find a way out of your situation.

I have been so lucky! I don't have a lot, but for some reason there is always enough there when I really need it. Not sure how that happens, but am very glad for it. Perhaps part of it is a positive outlook. That certainly can't hurt.

Of course, it all depends on the way that your mind is set. Though, we also have to look at it from another perspective. Poverty may lead to some other complications including health issues. A person whose mental health is unstable due to living in that condition and they have every access and opportunity to change that...it can be extremely hard.

Mentally being in a physical impoverished condition can take a toll on a person. It most always does

When I think of poverty, I believe you need to take into consideration the circumstances of how a person end up in poverty.

These circumstances have significant influence to the mindset of those who are poverty stricken and what can be done to address the issue.

Usually it is perceived as a “place,” but this place influences the mindset and make it a “mentality.” I would say both but circumstances would make “place” greater influence, as in “how did I end up here?” However, mindset change Or Mentality is the greater influence and requirement to get out of it.

I identified 3 scenarios:

1. Fall into poverty
A streak of bad luck or circumstances, like lost job, failed businesses, debt, legal issues, got cheated and more. A person could end up in poverty (place) and find themselves unable to cope. Mindset change is always needed before they can get out.

2. Born into poverty
A child who grew up in poverty will be conditioned by this circumstances and environment.

3. A poverty world
This is when the entire community is in poverty. We take cities and countries etc. individuals cannot do anything about it and there is little chance of mindset change because it is not accessible.

I see the solution to poverty like a swimming pool. You see someone drowning (in poverty), what do you do?

One can jump in and try to rescue the person, but the person could struggle and pull you into the water and both drown.

Or you could throw the person a lifebuoy, and pull the person out. Then you help the person from there.

The issue of poverty need an approach where society, which includes government, NGO etc using policies, money, etc to be that lifebuoy to get people out of poverty first, then help them.

Not an easy issue to address and this is my opinion.

I like the scenario where a person can throw another a lifebuoy. That's what I think needs to happen on a consistent basis. That's what I'm all about and want to demonstrate that at Elevatedinfo.com

That is great. Will take a look.

Poverty is a place that you mentally choose to be.

Your choice is to learn to grow your lifestyle with care and respect.

A positive climb up your chosen ladder looking left and right along the way will open doors to as you go, never looking back.

Thank you Tirolith. So I will take with me that it is actions that create results.
