Is 'Vagina' A Bad Word?....

Ok... I realise the title is a little controversial and will turn a few heads, but it isn't intended for that purpose!! Honest!

Is 'vagina' a bad word?...well, according to Street Articles, it is! Here's what happened...

After much hesitation and thought, I finally settled down the other night to write my first article on Street Articles..this was the next big step for me, as I had spent every waking hour outside my regular work putting content into my website!

So, I started writing my article...everything going fine, well almost until I accidently closed the page..a word of advice...save your work as draft as you go along or your will find you will lose all your hard work in one silly manoeuvre like I did!

Finally, after much time had surpassed, I finished my article, added an image and a few links in and hit 'save & publish'......imagine my surprise when SA quickly proof read it and stated I couldn't use 'vagina' as it was considered a 'bad' word! LOL....I literally laughed out loud!

Allow me to explain...my original context of using this particular word was explaining a certain symptom (namely vaginal dryness) and how taking a particular herb could benefit from this problem. In my humble opinion, I wasn't writing gratuitous content and believe I used the right 'expression' in this context!

Still in humorous disbelief, I asked my husband what other word I could use instead...and believe me the one's he gave me were not the most appropriate! (I'll let your imagination run wild here!)

Instead, I opted for 'dryness in the women's urinal area' .

The article is still pending...so wish me luck!:0)

What are anyone's thought on this?

I think the big problem is every time anyone mentions some thing sexual at all or even can be thought as sexual they think it is going to be rude and ignorant and pornographic and nothing could be farthest from the truth....

as I have a adult novelty site and some think I am the devil or something.....more health articles than any thing on site...no nude no porno mags videos or any nudity at all...content to help for sexual pleasure and safety concerns..

.I must be the devil......

I consider my site to be helpful as a good sex life is prelude to a all round enjoyable and balanced life....I find it a shame that most folks cannot open their eyes and see that sex is not dirty but is natural and a part of life for all.....

So as our sites may be a bit different we have good content that will help people in need it is a shame words can freak people out....help is help...why when it comes to sexuality it is a hard fight......

How did we all get here.....sex was involved they have been doing it for centuries....

LOL!

I agree!... thanks for your feedback.

Haha bet you got some good help from your hubby on that one :). Like others have done I agree with Rich on this one, SA has to draw the line somewhere and they put the bar high.

There are other article directories out there to use Ezine, Sooperarticles, Isnare... to just name a few.

Thanks Veronica for your feedback!

I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Rich's comment is valid. I would just publish those sorts of items with Ezine.

Thanks Bev

I won't as I find this whole experience quite amusing and appreciate any comments!

:) I will pass on this one :)

Me too! I blush easily.

I know exactly how you feel. I have a mens personal issues website. You see, I have 7 brothers and at one time was married. I know a lot about what problems my brothers had. I decided to have a website pertaining to these men's issues that a lot of them had.

I wrote an article to SA with the word "penis." They rejected the article, and at first I thought that it was because of that word being used. That was not it. It was because on my website there are images of the "penis" showing certain problems. It was considered adult content.
I had no problem with that. That is their guidelines. I take my articles to Ezine Articles and I have them published there. I get very good rankings too! I was not promoting anything but an honest way to solve a problem and no porno on the site.

So, my question to you is this. What was on your website? Is there something there that may be against the guidelines? So, like Bluedot said, if the word "vagina" was used in other articles then the problem is somewhere else. Check with Kyle or Carson and see what the problems was for sure.

I hope this helps. Also, remember this. You were not rejected but your article was. This will not be the last time that an article will be rejected by any article directory. It happens.

If you felt you were right in using the word "vagina" which is the appropriate word, then I would have not changed it. If you were writing a professional article then that is the correct word. If you were kidding around and writing a more sleazy type of article then the other words could be used.

I hope this helps. But, I do know how you feel. Been there.

Hi Sherion

thanks for your input on this ...my website is about herbal teas and it contains certain remedies for certain ailments, so don't think its directly linked to the content as the actual website doesn't contain any 'bad' words yet ! .....i will keep Ezine Articles as an option in future though but i'm not deterred with this experience ....I find it quite amusing!

Hi my name is randy I just joined today

Hi Randy

welcome to WA!

I don't believe it's a bad word, however I do agree with Rich's comment. I would suggest submitting your article to a different directory. There are a bunch out there you could submit your articles to, Ezine.com for one.

Thanks for the advice! I will bear this in mind next time!

Understand your frustration with this situation and the fact that you may not be so happy with your re-write, but I guess Rich comment below is the answer - it certainly makes a lot of sense to me,
Regards
Hudson

yeah it does!..thanks for your thoughts on this!

Yes it's unfortunate that this seems the only way to stifle out bad words - how it's done, one can only assume that it's an automated proof read. I would challenge this as - if you type in the 'V' word in search within Street Articles - you'll see other articles that have the same word - Email Kyle and see what he says. http://www.streetarticles.com/womens-interests/fifty-shades-of-greymore-like-fifty-shades-of-ridiculous this article has 'Vagina' in it ??? and it was published!!!

I was surprised that this precise article is the one that is suggested to read on level 2 lesson 7. !!!! And it is a review telling how bad the book is. 700,000 clicks. bad publicity is publicity. If this article is at Street Articles, which mentions more dirty expressions than the non dirty vagina, then a health article mentioning correct anatomical parts should also be there, or Fifty shades review removed to be more congruent.

Thanks for that Colin!

Hey T.

I'm "guessing" that to ensure Street Articles consistently ranks well they avoid approving anything that might mislead search engines into thinking it's a potential repository of adult content.

Rich. x

I have closed my account with Street Articles. I have struggled with them trying to get my articles approved. Finally I managed to get two articles aproved but unfortunately I had to make a minor link change and when I re-submitted my articles were disapproved. I don't understand how they can be OK and then they are not. My articles were about selling crafts online, my web site is a professionally built Crafters Mall http://www.glccraftmall.com . I sent an email to support and did not get a reply it has been approximately two week.

A lot of articles are judgement calls and maybe a different moderator saw it next time around, if you want to get in contact, send Kyle or Carson a pm here at WA and they will help you out

Hey Rich

thanks for the quick feedback...always appreciated!.....it seems most people agree with your comment and I have no probs with that!
