Bonus tip for fast Gmail archiving
I found this today as I was annoyed with the 7000 plus emails in my three gmail boxes. I had everything archived in less than 5 min with no repetitious clicking enjoy!
To archive all the emails in your Gmail inbox:
- Enter
in:inbox
into the search bar - Press the search button or press
return
to run the search - Click more button and select
Create filter
- Click
OK
when warned that the filter will not apply to new mail - Select
Skip the Inbox (Archive It)
andAlso apply filter to X matching conversations.
- Click
Create Filter
X in step five will show up as a number (for number of conversations to archive) and it's the last thing on the list you can check.

just to add to this when you are done you will have to go into your email box settings. Gear icon on the right, settings, filters and blocked addresses tab, and delete the filter you created. WHY? because you won't get emails at all if you don't. This essentially is auto archiving everything! Once you delete the filter though everything is done and you have the desired cleaned out Gmail box in record time.
Great tip. This will help with the psychological impact of seeing those huge email numbers.
