I don't think you need to limit yourself to a certain number of keyword phrases as long as they relate to your niche.

I've seen folks use keywords that are unrelated to each other on their sites and that's where it can hurt you. We aren't trying to be Jacks of all trades with our websites. What we want is to be focused and narrowed in on our topic.

Whatever your niche website will be about...focus on one main keyword phrase to get your topic rolling. Then branch out within it and find yourself lots of low hanging fruit keyword phrases and make blog posts with them. Your reach with your websites low hanging fruit keyword phrases will be far and wide and bring you lots of traffic.

So in a nutshell....the more the merrier with keyword phrases :)
