Perfect Home Basics: Tea time
Through many thoughts on what to do in my we is I decided to use my talent as a whole house designer as well as a certified stager. I just wanted to start my first blog as perfect home basics: teatime. Everything starts in the kitchen so let's start there first.
Where do we spent most of our time? Well I know most families love their kitchen. Sitting around the dining room, having a cup of tea or coffee with cake and just conversing with people. I grew up in England and every day at 4 pm we had tea time. Tea was made with loose British tea, in a very hot ceramic pot. The tea was placed in the teapot by the teaspoon and mom would then pour boiling water into the tea. She always brewed it for a full 3 minutes and then pour the tea into tea cups with milk or cream already added. No tea ever escaped because we had a perfect strainer that always caught the loose tea leaves. We then had small sandwiches, scones, or biscuits, another name for cookies. I recently never understood how we ate all of this and then 2 hours later had supper? I lived like that every day, even when we moved to the states.
So whether you are British or not, invest in a beautiful ceramic teapot, whether you drink tea on a daily basis or not. They're not expensive. You don't need to visit a British shoppe to purchase one either. I've seen them at Target, Kroger or Walmart. Just make sure before getting a teapot you have to have a something to boil the water in.
That's where you need a kettle. A kettle is available anywhere: Target is my favorite place to pick anything up that is beautiful to look at and whistles when the water has boiled. I've seen them run anywhere from $15 and up. Looking for a teapot is really something you need to invest time into picking. My mom has the perfect British tiny rose pattern, but she started collecting the whole set starting in the '60's. Again the price range concerning tea pots are anywhere from $45 and up, but this is a must for your kitchen.
You will be able to offer your friends, neighbors, and family the perfect cup of tea, all done with "wow" looks in their eyes!
Make this first thing you do in your kitchen something that looks beautiful and doesn't just sit there looking pretty. It is a must! The best loose tea is HRHiggins, the only problem is you have to purchase it online. The other loose tea is Earl Grey and Twinings, both of those you can get at Kroger. Usually from $5 up to around $7. It goes a long way. You can actually get Lipton loose tea which is very inexpensive around $3.50.
I found at Target "Kathy Ireland Collections" starting at $39.99. They also have a 2 cup teapot for $4.95. Those are great prices! For even less expensive teapots go online to any British site and the cost is even less. There are so many to choose from.
I also included my moms tea cup as my image, that is the look I grew up on, and we were the talk of the neighborhood. As soon as my mom said, "Would anyone like a cup of tea?" Everyone knew their tea would be served in that pattern along with tasty treats.
So starting off with the basics is to sit around your kitchen or dining room table with a wonderfully made cup of tea, fancy yet simple sandwiches and biscuits. It won't break the bank and you will feel like someone different for a couple of hours or more.
Enjoy

I think my mom has the same cup or very similar! Having a cup of tea is for some reason SO relaxing and feels luxurious to me :-). I also enjoy interior design and things like that. Very cool idea!
Thanks Randi! I'm so glad you feel the same way & understood the blog. Glad you enjoy Interior Design too, very important for anyone's home, even as basic as having a gorgeous teapot :-)
Totally! I like to use them even to hold some of my nice jewelry or other trinkets... But to actually USE them for TEA makes you feel like you belong in your beautiful space.
Did I reply thanking you last night Randi? I remember posting it but now it's gone? Strange...anyway like you think it's a cool idea! Anyone who likes Interior Design understands how you can make your place look great without spending a lot of money too :-) I hope I can be successful with my blog...Good luck too!!
