What In The Wide, Wide, World of Sports Is A Goin' On Here?

I really love that line from Blazing Saddles. Now that I have completely dated myself, I'll get to the point.

Even though I am a complete newbie to affiliate marketing I unexpectedly want to share some wisdom I have learned in my 53 years on planet earth. I say unexpectedly because I am only writing this Blog - If that is what this is - in response to the New Blog Post window that popped up when setting up my account. My initial reaction was this. What could I possibly share with these people that will be helpful to new AM'ers as well as those intrepid souls who have been doing this for a while?

While researching this business opportunity I learned an interesting fact. 97% of people who get into affiliate marketing will fail. That means that only 3% of people will succeed. A seemingly abyssmal success rate compared to traditional business models. As Slim Pickens would ask, What in the wide, wide, world of sports is a goin' on here?

If this is such a good opportunity why do so many fail? Is it because people lack the necessary skills? No. Is it because people don't have enough initial capital to make an honest attempt? No. Is it because every website devoted to this is simply scamming you and they are the only ones making any money in this business? No.

The single biggest reason, and ultimately the only valid reason why people fail in this business and many other similiar business opportunities is lack of foundational belief in themselves. That's it. It really is as simple as that. Now, I know what you are thinking - How can I, being a total newbie, know that this is true? While I am a total newbie at AM'ing, I have tried and failed at many other things. I have sold Kirby vacuums door-to-door, I was an Amway Distributor, Herbal Life Distributor, and many more. Some I can't even remember the name of, for pete's sake! Had I known then what I am telling you now, I would have succeeded at every one of them. Or, at least, the very first one. If I had gone on to be a Kirby Distributor chances are I would have made that my career.

It is not the lack of skills, the lack of money, or the lack of good opportunities that cause people to fail. It is simply the lack of belief in themselves. For me, that was a hard lesson to learn. It is probably the same for many of you, too. So the next question becomes how can you overcome this terrible affliction? I don't know with 100% certainty what you lack in terms of foundational belief in yourself, but I will share what has helped me.

First, find a mentor. If you have ever read any success stories you will know that in 99.99% of all people who have ever gone on to to great things in any business endeavor, found someone or a group of someones that have already succeeded in that particular business and followed their path to success. You do not have to reinvent the wheel, just do what other successful people have already done.

Next, spend 15-30 minutes per day reading inspirational stories, doing positive affirmations, meditation, exercising, reminding yourself at least 100 times per day that you are worthy, and can accomplish whatever goal you put your heart, mind, and soul in to.

Next, have a cause that is not self-centered. If you include others in your goals and aspirations you will likely bear the pains of becoming successful more readily and find creative ways to overcome the obstacles to success. For this, I asked my wife what her number one wish would be if a genie suddenly popped out of the diet coke she was drinking and granted her three wishes. Her number one wish was to purchase a new home that was decorated and appointed exactly how she wants it - the only move-in thing we have to do is bring our personal items and clothes. That is now my top goal on my journey to success. What a wonderful day that will be when we can make that happen!

Next, set small, attainable goals. You wouldn't go somewhere you have never been without a gps, would you? Success is the same as any other journey. You have to have a road map. When setting goals, be specific. I have read a lot of other's goals for income and the time they are willing to spend attaining them. While I applaud their enthusiasm, it is important to set goals that you actually believe you can achieve. If your mind cannot conceive of making $100,000.00 per month(mine can't, yet) do not make that your goal. Pick a number your mind can believe and write it down. Refer to your goals every day before you get started so you will know what you still need to do in terms of activity to get there. If you are not meeting your goals, do not be afraid to adjust them - it really is super important that your mind can believe it. Also, avoid vague goals like "I'll spend as much time as necessary to attain my goal." Again, your mind has to believe it and you really need to be specific. Think of the minimum amount of time you are willing to devote each day you are working and the number of days per week you will work. From experience, you will not hit the mark each and every day, but if you are specific and set small attainable goals you will be much more likely to prevail overall. Then, watch what happens as you begin to meet your goals - even small ones. It will reinforce everything you have told yourself and cause you to do even more. It is magical. I learned this mystical feat in my career as a BMET at the Community Blood Center. I did things there I never thought I could and overcame my biggest fears because of realistic and specific goal setting. It was truly magical.

and finally, realize that success is a journey rather than a destination. I have tried many things along the way to success and have learned a great deal from all of my experiences. Out of each of my failures I learned something important that has brought me to this point. Have you noticed that I am talking like I have already succeeded before I have anything to show for it? It is because I have. The hardest part - 95% is already done because I have made the decision that this opportunity is the one. This is how I will succeed, no ifs, ands, or buts. This is it. This belief is a culmination of all of my failures and successes tied in a neat little mindset package. A unique package I have created for myself over the years. Because of that package, and yes, it includes all of my past failures and successes, I cannot, and will not, fail. All you need to do is make the decision and do the things necessary to reinforce that decision. Intention is everything.

You may still think I am full of it, and that is ok. I'll challenge you to follow me and see what my journey to success looks like and refer you back to this post along the way. :-) Happy Affiliate Marketing, everyone!

Hi Ray, the first thing I did was click the green "Follow" button to my right. I will surely follow your journey. Your post is very well written and I think it shows the amount of experience you have to offer to the WA community. You are correct, there are many many many mentors here at WA. The only thing that could possibly keep any of us from failing is ourselves and just quitting.

I know for sure this is going to make me years to accomplish and I fine with that.

Have a great day. I look forward to communicating with you in the future.
