Take the Tequila Test!

So, don't worry, I am not asking you to take part in a drinking game (but feel free to do so, if you wish!)

I was prompted to write today's post after reading several MMO sites when I was offering feedback earlier.

The one thing that stands out on every site is that inevitably, the first post will always be "What is Affiliate Marketing?"

Followed by "How to Make Money with Affiliate Marketing?" and "How Do I Start Affiliate Marketing?".

It's a similar story with other popular niches - "What is the Keto Diet?" or "How to Lose Belly Fat" etc.

I must have read thousands of these types of posts, and they rarely discuss anything new, or have any original take on the subject.

One of the skills of writing is to learn how to say what everyone else isn't.

And this is where the Tequila Test comes in!

If you were to ask 100 people to write a post on how to structure a productive morning routine, it would undoubtedly mention the following points:

• Get up early
• Do yoga/stretching/work out/meditate etc
• Read emails and check your diary
• Create a list of tasks for the day
• Avoid social media

Have you learned anything new from this list?

Would you have skipped the rest of the post because it is so boring and unoriginal?

You might format this in a different way, but you are still saying the same thing as everybody else.

Now, how could you stand out when writing that post?

• Get up early
• Knock back a shot of tequila

See how that grabs your attention?

You need to be original, you need to stand out from the crowd, you need to put your own spin on the subject.

So, next time you write a blog post, start by writing down what you have heard other people say about the subject, what are the cliche answers you read time after time, what is repeated again and again?

Now, do not use anything on that list!

Use your own knowledge and experience to offer something new.
