Copywriting or Content Writing: What's the Difference?

So, would you describe yourself as a copywriter or a content writer?

Is there a difference?

Yes, they are two entirely different skills.

And actually, copywriters tend to be paid more, as their purpose is to drive sales.

To be a successful affiliate marketer, you need to master both content writing and copywriting.

Content writing is undoubtedly easier.

Its purpose is to attract readers, create engagement, build up trust and establish domain authority in your niche subject.

There is no element of selling, it's not product-based and should form the majority of your content, it's purely informational.

Copywriting, on the other hand, will be the basis of your "money posts" - it should drive sales and encourage readers into making a purchase.

Although you might think that copywriting is what you see in an advertisement or a brochure or a catalog, your review posts will employ the same technique.

You need to be subtle and yet, persuasive.

Show the benefits of a product and how it can make a difference in your readers' lives.

Copywriting has short, succinct sentences and is intentional, with no waffle or fluff!

It's compelling, it's relevant.

The more your visitors read, the more they realize they must have this product!

And at the end of the post, BOOM!

There's your affiliate link, they can buy it right now!

I hope you found this interesting, and I hope to share some copywriting skills and techniques with you in the future.

I like to thank you because the information was informative I thought I was on the right track but I know I that I'm headed in the right direction I appreciate it. Thank You

Diane, I am a member of AWAI and PWA and through those networks, I have been able to learn from people like Robert Bly who I think is one of the best.

I have his handbook somewhere and really should dust it off.

You have so much experience and I am looking forward to learning from you.

Thank you for sharing.

Cassi

Thanks Diane for clarifying the differences in copywriting and content writing.
Although I've been writing for a long time, I never thought about what category of writer I fell into.
I've found myself with several kinds of writing jobs in which I had no formal training: Newsletters and newspapers. I loved writing the articles and stories but did not like writing ads.
I guess that tells me where I am.
Looking forward to your article on skills and techniques.

I never thought of it that way. Because I am not a good writer in the first place. I could not grasp the writing classes I have taken in the past. I just did not understand how to properly do it. Did my best though even though I did not get the grade I was looking for. I had to just group it all together.
You Have a Great post here. I would love to be able to do that in my writing.

I am with you Curt, but I really wouldn't mind writing as a pass-time.

Canty
