Finding it difficult to write one post after another?

Some people aim for one post a day. Others choose to set a weekly goal of perhaps one, two, or maybe three posts a week.

If you are passionate about your niche, you might have a list of topics to write about. Sure, you still need to research the keyword and even the topic, itself.

Note to new writers: This process actually does get easier with time. And quicker. That's true of most things we practice.

So how do you find the time? If you don't have a full-time job, it's a little easier. But even if you have no other commitments, sometimes those posts just don't come together as you would hope.

The truth is, those posts are NOT going to write themselves!

No, you need to get your research and thoughts together and make them happen.

As a writer's coach, I encourage people to write every day. Even if it's just a few sentences. In total honesty, I encourage much more than just a few!

Think of it as writing class.

Ray Bradbury wrote over 27 novels and well over 600 short stories. Of those, some won awards, others faded into almost obscurity.

One of his quotes that I like to share reflects his thoughts on writing.

“Write a short story every week. It’s not possible to write 52 bad short stories in a row.” – Ray Bradbury

That's a good philosophy for writing articles for our websites, too.

If you write one or more articles a week, some of those might fail to rank at all. But others might become the secret to your success!

Keep writing.

Use a free app like Grammarly or ProWritingAid if you want to improve your writing. In fact, I recommend using an app even if you feel you are already an expert writer. No one is perfect!

Keep writing.

Even if you need more topics. Research them. Then write more.

Keep writing.

“Exercise the writing muscle every day, even if it is only a letter, notes, a title list, a character sketch, a journal entry. Writers are like dancers, like athletes. Without that exercise, the muscles seize up.” —Jane Yolen

Take a day off if you need. Then get back to writing the next day. I hear from writers who have stopped writing for a month or more. They usually feel that they have lost their traction and have fallen off the pace.

The remedy?

Keep writing.

Yes, even if you are stumbling, writing is like any skill. You improve by practicing it.

Of course, make sure you practice the correct way. Use those online apps or have a friend or family member edit for you.

But practice.

Keep writing!

This is how you do it: you sit down at the keyboard and you put one word after another until it’s done. It’s that easy, and that hard.” —Neil Gaiman

Hi, Diane, I have to agree with you, in the beginning, writing can be a chore that may be hard for many, I was in that camp.

Over time we can develop a relationship with the words we create; it can become something that we can derive much pleasure from.

Like most things in life, the more that we practice and immerse, the better we get. This is where WA comes into its own.

Some very cool reflections, Diane.

Alex

You state that development quite eloquently, Alex!

I'm not sure everyone is cut out to write. Many avid readers tend to be good writers. Writers also seem to (and I say this generally) have a certain, loner personality. Janet Evanovich who writes those what I call brain dead novels (but they are funny) writes every day for HOURS and does not see a sole. I can see that. I'm ok with that. Sometimes you just have to sit at the computer or with pad and paper and just put down what comes to mind even if it makes no sense. It gets the motor running.

It does seem true that many (most, maybe?) writers are more introverted. I wonder what the cause/effect truly is.

Something to think about.

Yes, I will have to give that some thought.

Your post is just what I need, Diane. Thank you.

I haven't even stumbled this year, having come to a standstill. No action al all in spite of a current Grammarly Premium subscription.

I don't find anything to write about. In saying that, maybe I could write about preparing oneself for a day-long move of residence from one town to another town far away! That could keep me busy, even though it wouldn't fit my niche!

Here's to showing Grammarly what I can do!

Strangely enough, when I do write, Grammarly almost always gives me 100 per cent or, at the least, 99 per cent rating.
Not sure I deserve that level. I think they're tuned in to being kind!

Valerie

Just write, Valerie! 😀 Use your Grammarly premium subscription as much as you can!

Thanks for the comments, my friend. Have a good day!
