My Love of Travel
From as long as I can remember I’ve loved to travel, even if it was just going to the supermarket. The simple thought of getting into the car and buckling up sent my little toes tingling. When I took my first airplane trip I thought my feet would never touch the ground again. That first experience on an airplane is still as fresh in my mind as it was the day I took the ride.
As I packed my suitcase I was jittery all over thinking about how much fun it was going to be soaring through the sky. When we were approaching the terminal I gazed at the arriving and departing flights and thought to myself, “That’s about to be me!” No one could have prepared me for what my body was about to go through; my ears stopped up so badly that my head began to pound.
The passenger next to me, noticing how I was squirming in my seat asked if this was my first trip to which I responded by nodding my head vigorously. She asked if my ears felt clogged and again I nodded so she very calmly suggested that I pinch my nose with my thumb and forefinger and blow. This actually worked as I felt my ears begin to pop and open. I was so thankful for the relief and repeated the process every time I felt them closing again.
When the plane landed and we were being ushered off my feet couldn’t seem to find the floor. It was as if I was walking on a waterbed. With every step I had to make a conscious effort to ensure that the floor was there and my feet were firmly planted on it. I felt like an astronaut trying to walk in space, that same passenger was behind me seeing how I was walking and simply patted me on my back and said ‘It takes some getting used to! Now I consider myself a seasoned traveler!
