Getting Sidetracked - And What I'm Doing About It

Tuesday, I found myself having hit rank 185. I hear that's a great milestone on here. Looking back though, it's a bittersweet accomplishment, if I really think about it. I don't want to sound like a Debbie Downer but getting there made me sober up a little. Here's my thinking...

I started with Wealthy Affiliate roughly 30 days ago. I tried to take full advantage of the Starter Membership and completed Course 1 within my first 7 days. At the end of Course 1, I was prompted to upgrade to Premium, which I did, and I was able to also take advantage of the 60% off deal for my first month.

When I first started with WA, I was more focused on completing the training. I wanted to get as much as possible out of my first 7 days. But once I went Premium, I slacked off. A lot. I guess I was already sold on WA Premium so that I felt like I could take a deep breath and slow down a little. What silly thinking! And here I am, only halfway through Course 2 - am I being too hard on myself or should I expect to be done with Course 2 and some of Course 3 by now?

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE being able to help people, and I bet a lot of that has pushed me past rank 200, but I may have to slow down a little on my engagements with blog posts from people that I follow. I've already written a little about filtering my email inbox to make it more manageable. If you're wondering about that, you might also want to check out the posts that RikaSF and Ericcantu wrote about using filters in your email inbox.

For me, it's now time to pick up the pace, get back on track and finish up my training. Sorry, if I miss anyone's post; it's not personal and I don't mean to be rude lol!

Right you are Daniel, have a nice weekend, Taetske

Most of us have experienced the same. Do what is most comfortable to you...remembering that training is the way to success. Continued success. Debbie

Hi Daniel.
Sounds like your doing grwat either way. I agree that the lessons are most important. We are here to build our business.
Thanks for your help along the way.
Catch you later!

good post

Totally understandable! As I was completing the training courses, I had actually put off following a large number of people because I was not sure how I would keep up with everything. Now that I have the training completed, I feel much more comfortable with me following others rather than just following back on the people that have followed me!

Don't feel so bad! I've been at WA since the end of last year and I'm only on Course 5! It has taken me ages to get through it. The good news is, it's not a race. Take everything at your own pace. You've managed a great accomplishment by already ranking below 200! Pat yourself on the back. You've done good :)

Clearly your gift is helping others out!

It is a balance, doing the training and building your site versus helping and learning off the other members in the community.

For me, part of what I love about WA is to being able to read the posts and questions from the other members, and if I am going to take the time to read something, I may as well respond if I have anything worthwhile saying.

But it is a struggle to balance the too sides. Unfortunately I love doing both, so I focus on both and just make sure I don't use engaging with the community as a means of procrastinating on doing my training or building my site.

Good luck with it Daniel, for I don't think there is any right answer, just one which suites you.

Ha! Thanks! Yes, that's what I like about WA too; everyone helping each other

No offense taken. I understand completely. You have to prioritize and do what you feel is most important first.

I found some courses take longer than others and if you don't understand it you need to go back over it till you do.
It's easy to get caught up with the community here. Find yourself a happy medium because you also learn a lot from other members but spending too much time on that will take away from your sites progress. I made myself a routine to keep me from getting too sidetracked.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm getting closer to finding that healthy medium and getting a good routine going :-)

You will have peaks and troughs, once you're back on track there will be no worries.

Thanks
