Remembering times forgotten.
i was responding to a fellow members blog post and found inspiration to blog about things I have forgotten from growing up. Smelling flowers, not all of which smell good to me. Catching fireflies in a Mason jar with holes in the lid for air. Add some grass for bug food. The memories of going to play in the ocean (which was a huge mud hole from grandpa's tractor tires on a rainy day) with origami boats and plastic butter tub sail boats. I wasn't the kind of child to enjoy getting dirty. Grandma had to put 2x4 lumber across so I wouldn't fall in the ocean. (The ocean is a dangerous place to swim you know lol.) I'm just trying to say it seems like so long ago in people's lives that we went out in the rain to jump in mud puddles just to see the biggest splash we could make. We forget our small memories from child hood and maybe even our biggest dreams from growing up.
2 of my biggest dreams growing up were seemingly simple and completely achievable.
1) I wanted to save the planet. Trees and forests are being cut down and chopped up for limber and building new things. In exchange for taking down trees we expand our horizons, our city limits, our building ground for new development. My solution was to purchase a few acres of land and start a forest. Trees provide lumber, fire wood, sap for maple syrup, plenty of other things can be produced from trees. Most of all OXYGEN. I wanted to produce plenty of oxygen for our earth. Plenty of years of growing trees and a stream of income through the government (not knowing anything about grants at this age) so I could get paid for upkeep, property protection, even double the grounds as a wildlife reservation. Trees would eventually be cut down and processed for other uses and replaced by new trees.
Such a big dream for a small kid.
As I got older I never forget about that dream. I do forget that it is still a probable goal in life.
2) As I got older and was introduced to the world of video games, I became intrigued by how they work, what if I could do this, what if I changed that. The programming and development behind it all. I want to be able to build my world. Build my dreamland like Kirby. As technology moves on and graphics improve, my ideas expanding and reforming into new goals and possibilities. It became more obvious over time that this particular dream is long and far away. I live on a fixed income with a disability that some days, especially lately is crippling. I can't get myself up to even talk nourishment (according to my grandma that if i can do that at her age makes it a great day).
That dream isn't forgotten as much as it is feared of failure. If I don't start it I can't fail. If I start college to learn and I fail, how can I afford to keep my funding. If I'm not a full time student, I don't get as much grant money to fund my learning. If I have a day where I can't function, will I be expelled? Will I lose my seat in class? Can they do that?
The things we do in life and things we go through and learn from make us who we are today. Our lives are always changing and we can never truly put life on hold. Like a good MMO game, there is no pause button. Take time to remember the little things that you once loved or dreamed of. Take time to enjoy those things again.
Have a good day everyone.

This is really sweet. We've grown so much that we forgot about all those little things that makes us human. I enjoyed reading this. So, thanks for sharing.
