Why do we need money? The 6 L's

What is the purpose of money and why do we need it? I think we can break this down into 6 key areas, which I call the 6 L's:

LIFE - the cost of the day-to-day running of your life. Food, housing, clothing, utilities and other bills. This is what gives those of us with limited finances sleepless nights, worrying about how we can fund these essential elements of our life.

LOVE – this is what keeps us going, this is what it is all about. My wife is my world. And, whilst it does not cost anything to love somebody, I would love to treat my wife in ways that only money can afford!

LEISURE – we all need a break from time to time. However, if, like me, you are a contractor, time off means no income and this is something I cannot afford. As a result, I have very few breaks and my leisure time is limited to evenings and weekends. Money would afford me the luxury of spending more time with my wife and our son!

LIBERTY – the more money you have, the more freedom you have to do what you want, when you want! This is nirvana and what we should all be aiming towards. To work because you want to, not because you have to. To spend time with the ones you love. This kind of freedom only comes with money.

LUXURY – the little extras in life! Everybody likes to be spoiled. From my point of view, it involves being able to spoil my wife. To give her an unexpected gift. To take her away for a romantic break. This costs money. There is not enough money in the world to give my wife everything she deserves!

LEGACY – we all want to leave something behind for our children when we depart this mortal plane. As things stand, the only thing I can leave my son, apart from a mountain of debts, is the knowledge that he has been loved, deeply and unconditionally. To leave something material for him, whether money or bricks and mortar, or ideally both, is my determined aim.

And that, folks, is the reason why I am determined to make a success of my life, with the help of all you good people!
