Finding the Time
One of the most difficult things I've found about making my own website is how to find the time to work on it. As any full-time college student knows, time is our most valuable asset. Not everyone can afford to spend hours a day researching topics for their website or implementing techniques to attract more visitors. It's hard to write articles and blogs when a class requires two papers a week plus there the labs, lectures, and maybe even online homework. And that's only one class!
We all knew coming into Wealthy Affiliate that it was going to take a lot of effort. It is going to take time. It is going to take that research, writing, etc. For someone like me who already has a full schedule, How can We Find the Time?
Time Management
Arguably the best skill a college student can have, proper time management can make the difference between having a basic website and having an authoritative money machine. When the days are already filled with classwork how can you make more time? Well here's a quick list of what I do, and ,so far, it has been proven to work.
1. Wake Up Earlier
This may not be the most appealing option. Who doesn't love sleeping in? There's a reason you can choose to have a 2PM class, right? To sleep in! Well, rather than sleeping in you can use those precious hours in the morning to be doing something productive (I am writing this before my 11AM lecture). It's surprising how much can get done in just two hours in the morning.
2. Stay Up Later?
Not necessarily. Staying up late to work on a project has benefits as well as costs. While you will be able to complete more goals you're sleeping habits may suffer. I advise that you only stay up late only when it is absolutely necessary, and at most three times a week. Without proper sleep your brain will not have enough time to retain any new information learned. It is important to have a regular sleeping pattern.
3. Turn Off the T.V.
Since time is so valuable we must enjoy our down time, right? We need time to unwind from a long days work and just chill out for a while. I agree with this statement, but instead mindlessly staring at a T.V. for a few hours why not spend that time working on a project? "Well Devyn, working isn't downtime. I need to relax!" My counter to this would be to find something you like to do that is still productive. E.g. I enjoy writing so rather than watch T.V. I write a quick article. Add some coffee and music and it's a fun experience.
4. Make Working Fun
To add to the previous paragraph: working doesn't have to suck. Are you a person who enjoys analytics? Researching for your website will probably be a good time for you! Do you like to design things? Make logos/artwork for your website! Enjoy writing like myself? Write some blogs/articles! And make sure you do everything you can to make work fun. After a while it won't even seem like work.
5. Prioritize
It is very important to manage tasks efficiently. School takes priority over work, that's just how being a college student goes. But who's to say work doesn't take priority over something else? Make work your second priority everyday. Maybe stay in some weekends to be productive on the internet. It may not be as fun as going out with your buddies but the results will be great. It won't be easy, but the opportunity for return on investment makes it worthwhile.
I hope that these tips can help someone out there. Implementing some of these tips are rather hard, I am finding, but using just one of these tips can help tremendously. I mean look at this blog; I've written this wall of text before my day has even started! And I feel better about my day knowing that I've already been productive.
