My First Hire! Why? & Kids These Days!

Why hire?

Time is a challenge for me, so how do I get the best out of my WA time commitment?

I need to;

• learn this stuff
• create a site
• create content
• learn how to market
• build a big list
• build trust
• sell product that is great value
• ... and master this

I need to focus on the keys to earning;

• I have to understand what is going on, the big picture
• study internet marketing*
• study effective list building*
• study how great products work*
• * a great resource is top IM (internet marketing) sites online now. Look, understand, and utilise
• ... what else?

What can I farm out?

• blogging
• research for articles and other items
• ... what else?

Kids these days!

I remember when “I’m going to play football” meant kicking a ball around with mates. For my son (15) it’s FIFA 15 on playstation. Meeting friends meant in person, not on Facebook mobile. I hear kids these days are less motivated to do stuff. In reality, they’re more connected online. So that means they don’t live life as we did. They just do things differently.

I wonder, would my son would be turned on by IM (Internet Marketing) and WA? I imagine what life would be like had I found this earlier. We sit and talk about IM and what I am doing. There’s a spark of interest. We watch building a niche website together.

He likes the idea. We talk about whether he’d be interested in this. I make a suggestion.

Des (dad) - “I’d like you to consider learning how to do this, working for me, creating sites for me and being paid to do that. So let’s be clear. The learning you do won’t be paid work. That’s your learning. Then after that I’ll pay you $NZ13.75 p/h (minimum wage here in NZ), you’ll be able to clock in as many hours as you want in the evening or weekend. So while the pay is low you’ll easily be able to earn more.”

Branson - “Yeah I’m in. It looks interesting.”

Des - “Great, so I’ll be paying you through the books. We need to agree on some details. One for me is that when you are working, you’re working. So your mobile and online social media goes off while you are on the clock. You can have regular stops and connect but not while working for me. (“yeah okay”) Let’s talk after school and finalise everything.”

He was talking for the next 20 minutes about it before heading out the door.

My first hire! - And it’s win/win/win

• he earn’s money
• I farm out work that is low value
• he gets to learn a really useful skill

He is planning to leave school this year and become an electrician. As his dad this added learning and life experience is a great result.
