Promote yourself and your Business

People here all the time that there is shame in self-promotion. I think we should take a moment and think why we think this is bad, and where did we hear about this being the truth.

As intelligent human beings why is speaking about something that we do or have done a bad thing, and why do we equate joy or confidence or pride, about our work something bad instead of something we should feel proud of.

I have a completely different point of view on this, I think you should feel shameful if you don´t promote yourself, or your business.

I am giving you three different reframes:

• Focus on what you can give, vs what you can get.

The world needs that special gift that only you have, and if you are stealing from self-promoting yourself and your business, you are stealing from those who need you most.

You should just think as promotions as a service, like a public service, so people can get to know you, on a practical level you never know if people need to know what you do.

If not for themselves maybe for a friend or colleague, I am sure this happens in your life, you go out with friends, and somebody says I am a web designer, and you say "that's exactly what I have been looking for". So you see, promoting what you do, is always beneficial.

• Stop Caring

Stop caring about what other people think, some of us will hide from self-promotion, because we think that people won't like us, or they will judge us, or find us totally annoying, but guess what there are some people that already don't like us.

I am sorry to say this, but its true, but it´s the way it is with everybody, you can´t have everybody to agree with you, or like you, and the sooner you accept this the easy life will be for you.

Now the real question is, who are you living your life for, you don't create a business only for yourself, it's for other people, not everybody is going to get it, but the people who do like what you have to say promote or sell, those are the ones that matter.

• Do not be a broken record

Make sure you write about other peoples ideas and experiences, and include some of your own, but don´t self-promote just speaking about yourself, otherwise, it will be boring for your audience and you will lose customers. Share your gifts and services to the world in a unique way, this way nobody will ever feel you over promoting yourself or your business, or you bragging about how good you are at selling your business.
