I decided to start a TIPS, TRICKS & SHORTCUTS blog to share things that I have experienced during my WA journey that may have solved a problem or saved me some time.

I'll try to add a new tip or technique (that I feel might help someone) each month.

This will be geared for different levels depending upon the tip.....from beginner to more advanced. Stay tuned if this tip doesn't help today and keep it in mind for a later date. I'll try to mix them in terms of skill level and type of tip.

Duplicate Page/Post plugin when making design changes

This one is pretty simple but it has saved me a lot of grief when building a site or making major changes to a page/post.

Disclaimer: I use page builders a lot so this tip may be less interesting if you build everything in the Wordpress editor but it still may be helpful.

Usually when I build something, I will complete the project and then come back in and polish pages up or completely redesign a page/post. Instead of trying to figure everything out before I build it (which slows me down) I will build, then usually get some clarity and (maybe) come back in and make changes.

With that said, instead of editing a live page when I'm experimenting with some design changes I started using a "Duplicate Post" plug-in. I messed up many pages that were live before I figured this one out.

Side note: I only keep this plug-in active when I'm using it. After my editing / changes, I deactivate the plug-in and keep it in my library.

Here's how I use it

1. Activate the plug-in

2. Clone the page/post

3. Always keep it in "DRAFT" mode (Do not accidently publish the cloned page)

4. Experiment with design and content

5. Once you are satisfied with the changes, you now have the blueprint to easily duplicate these changes on the live page/post..

6. Delete the "DRAFT" cloned page/post

7. Deactivate the plug-in

I would not use this technique for this making easy edits or switching out one image for another. But if you are in the "test/experiment" mode, then this tip might be useful.

Best wishes and much success!
