Own Your Vision
Building my first website has been a hell of a journey, at times shrouded by indecisiveness as a result of a lack of experience. So, we look to our WA community for assistance when we are stuck and hope that they'll be able to give us clarity.
The biggest thing that I have learnt so far is that if one has a vision, no matter how far removed it is from the norm, just go with it and own your vision. It's true that the guidelines we receive for certain types of websites in terms of theme and layout have been tried and tested, but these can hinder your vision and it's important to remember that these are just guidelines. Have a little fun, go crazy and let loose! If this is your first website, you're allowed to make mistakes and later learn from them, and perhaps some day you'll be able to strike a balance between following norms and having a website that fully reflects your brand.
Here's to breaking barriers and crossing borders!

Yes, that's the approach that newbies like me should take. I have been doing just that. I don't expect a dollar from my first website I am just using it to learn the principles, don't get me wrong I tried to make a good attempt to established a niche and build around.
