Updated

I updated to windows 10 and thanks to the great reviews here, it was a very easy install.

3 Tips:

  • Schedule your install - Your PC will be unavailable during the install, so schedule when you do not expect to do any work.
  • Expect a long install - I started before I went to bed and in the morning it was almost done
  • Back up computer first - great advice

I love Windows 10. I upgraded from Windows 8 that I hated.

No Sound After 10 Days

Now after 10 days, I lost my sound. It just stopped. I have Realtek High Definition.

After googling Windows10 No Sound, I discovered that this is a common issue. There are variations on the problem. Sometimes you can have sound, but only if you do not have your ear phones plugged in. Others, like me, have no sound at all.

Resolution

I tried various solutions, but what worked for me was to roll back my driver. This is an option:

Control Panel - Device Manager - Sound Controller - Realtek - Right Click - Properties - Driver - Roll Back Driver

This worked! So, I am a happy camper again!

Recommendation

If you are upgrading from Windows 8, you will enjoy the speed and reliability of Windows 10. That being said. Windows 10 still has bugs - hey it was a free upgrade.

If you are using Windows 7, do your due diligence and read the reviews. You might want to wait until more bugs are eliminated.

I see 8 and 10 as the new Vista - which everyone knows was crap. I'm keeping 7 especially for my studio equipment - I cannot afford to have bugs and unneeded bells and whistles that eat up my cache. :)

I do like 10. But keep 7 for a little bit longer! You never know!

I updated from Windows 7 and now my computer works a lot better than before. The upgrade took hours but I think it was worth it. Hve a nice day!

I am glad. Let me know if you have any issues.

Hi Dee, thank you very much for the tip and for sharing....have a blessed day...bye...

You are welcome.

Sounds like your upgrade went well. That's great.

Thanks so much. It did.

Glad your upgrade was seamless, so was mine. Love it.

Good. I am loving it too.

You have convinced me to stay with Windows 7. I'm very comfortable with it and see no advantage in upgrading. Am I right or wrong? :)

I would agree. My old computer with windows 7 died. The new computer I bought had windows 8. I have not liked it.

My windows 8 performance was terrible. I think it's time to upgrade, but I am a bit skeptical.

The sound was the only problem. I really like my Windows 10. I should have added that my computer is a Lenovo. The performance is so much better. I would google the type of computer you have and see if there any issues. Otherwise, upgrade.

Hi there Dee

I only upgraded a few days ago and it only took me an hour and a half and so far no problems but of course it's early days yet.

Windows 8 and then 8.1 didn't bother me, like a lot of things it was just different that's all.

Fingers crossed for no problems in the coming days/weeks but I'd now recommend anybody toying with the idea to go ahead and do it...especially if your hardware is under 2/3 years old, my 'puter expert friend told me that downloads should not be an issue with recent devices but that it may be more so with older ones!

Mark

Thank you Dee, this will be very helpful to many.
I also upgraded to Win 10 form Windows 8.1
So far no issues that I have noticed.

Great. I am enjoying it despite my sound problem. Let me if you have any issues.

Will do.
