Still Climbing That Mountain

As I came to the end of level 4 training, one of the tasks was to do a blog for the community, and my first thought was "I can't do that! I don't have anything of value to add!" but I pulled up my big girl pants and thought I would just give you an update on how its going so far....

Well, I am still here, and to be honest I have shocked myself as there have been times when I've wanted to throw this laptop out the window and cancel the subs! But... I'm here. I have managed to lose blog posts! I've also managed to mistakingly change the theme on my site, which jumbled the whole thing around and gave me pulpitations, but out of that I did discover where the live chat button was so there was a bonus there. Thanks to loads of help and advice in there I managed to get the site restored back to the original one - or so I thought!

Google analytics!! I now realise why Kyle left this training for later, that paralysis analysis he mentioned .... well I discovered that too! It took me two days to finally get that mastered, don't ask, as I have no idea what I was doing, pressing wrong buttons, and deleting properties over and over again till I finally got it right. The sense of relief and achievement after that was pretty awesome I have to say and onwards and upwards we climb. It feels a bit like how a game of golf is described to me, you can have loads of really bad holes, but then you have one good one, and it makes it all worthwhile again!

After all that, the following day I checked out the website, I think more because I was still in awe of myself for having done all this and not thrown the towel in, and low and behold, somehow I had managed to revert my site to the jumbled theme that I had tried to restore to my original theme. My heart sank! Was I really going to try and continue with all of this?? Maybe, just maybe I needed to admit to myself that actually websites were not my thing and I should just try something else, or just go and get a job!! Lol... I eventually decided to get in touch with the help desk at Generate Press and see if they could help, and I have to say they are a lovely group of people there, so friendly and so helpful. After trying to describe what I had done (which is kinda difficult when you don't know what it is you actually did!) and what theme I was on, but I had no idea what theme I had had beforehand, they eventually told me what to do. I actually parked the tutorial in the inbox and waited a day before I picked it up, and this evening I decided to give it a go, and just like that it was restored to its original setting! I have also now learnt how to backup my site too in the process, so it has all been a learning curve, and I say it again, I am still here..... The mountain still feels like its quite high, but I am continuing to climb it :)

I only have one piece of advice to give fellow newbies ... don't be afraid to ask for help, it will actually save a whole heap of tears and time!

Again, I would like to thank this awesome community for being so helpful and encouraging! Here's to level 5, and hopefully I will be back with a positive outcome from that!

Wishing you all so much success
