Section 6: is the most important to email marketing.
In a nut shell Canadian companies need "Expressed Consent" to contact people electronically with "Commercial Electronic Messages". Consent needs to be proactive such as checking a box "Allowing commercial and promotional information be sent"
I am still deciphering what is involved and how to best comply with the new legislation.

thanks for posting such important info
Hi crazymonk86
You are welcome. I am not sure why this has not struck a chord with many of the members. I will be posting some more information when i get a few more things sorted out. As I dig through the legislation there are a lot of unanswered questions. Some of the examples found on the above pages are helpful but do not cover all circumstances.
wow what a mountain of info the first link has I am just beginning to read through the links on that first page this could take days. lol
the email responders already follow the guidelines as far is i am understanding when it comes to opt in and unsubscribe
So far my take is that the email services getresponse (I am most familiar with),as and aweber when using double opt in, we are barely covered. The unsubcribe has to be more prominent as well as mailing address. Other issues such as upfront, in your face, disclosure of promotional material will be sent. Then there are a number of issues with list sharing etc.
