The Job Search Continues
I got a nibble from an application I submitted when my co-workers told me they filled out a survey on me for references. It's a legal secretarial position at the legal department of a high school. I can't imagine it would be half as busy as I've been as a legal word processor for a law firm with hundreds of attorneys and their secretaries.
Turning from a word processor to a secretary is fraught with the whims of the attorney. At a law firm a legal secretary has to support at least three attorneys with all their time entries and travel plans and phone calls for each attorney. And then there's all the documents the attorneys generate.
As a legal secretary in a school's legal department there is probably just one attorney. And being a school I am assuming they don't do much air line travel. That leave more time to create the documents needed. I'm an expert level user of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and time entry programs.
And if this job pans out, after working for a school for a number of years, my student loans will be forgiven.
And if this job does not pan out, I have a list of the 50 largest Kansas City law firms and their addresses and website addresses. I can find out who the personnel director is at each firm and email my resume and cover letter right to the right person. Out of fifty, I'm sure I'll get one positive response.

Hang in there! I know I looked online for a friend who was an unemployed lawyer, and there are also remote legal positions available. Perhaps that might be of interest as well.
