This Wealthy Affiliiate community blog, is about Podcasts.

My question is really simple . Do you do them, if so what has been your experience of doing and why do you do them?

Podcasts, are pretty much the norm these days, especially for me as an avid football fan, supporter and co owner of my home town club Wimbledon, I listen to lots of them and its not just restricted to sports either, personal development and business are also on the agenda as well.

Now this set me thinking about doing my own, which in turn led me to think...

How on earth do you set one up and launch it.

So I thought I would ask the community here, because I'll get a cross section of answers which will help me decide whether I should do one or not.

I can see the benefits of having one and equally perhaps I might be able to attach it to my blog, at least that is my initial thinking.

Anyway thats my blog to you my fellow contributors and I look forward to reading your replies which I know will help me decide .

I am getting my equipment in place to do video and podcasting but until I can get the front area fixed up on this old house and get into my future office I am stuck with too much noise. I have a friend whi swears by podcasting for everything he is in and says the best effect is live streams where you can interact with the listeners even if following by social feed.

Thats an interesting reply with good food for thought. Thanks

Like you, I haven't done a live one yet. I have checked it out; you have to set your podcast up. I chose Apple, $19.99 yearly, but there are others. Also, you have to have the means to do the podcast. I got interested after ordering a short book camp course about some other information, and they were doing a podcast. It looked interesting, so I looked into it and plan to pursue it, time permitting, in the future. I guess it might be possible to host your podcast on your website at WA, but that question is beyond my scope of information.

Also, Libsyn is the program I chose; it is basically self-explanatory. You follow the prompts to set up your sessions. Be prepared to upload images, and they must meet specific criteria. I had no difficulty setting up the first session. At this time, I am just in limbo and can't move forward with it, as I have so many projects going on right now. Chat GPT does a good job of listing the best ones below.

Initially, I did not understand that you would need specific programs to help with the podcasting, but I soon learned better. However, there are some free programs with some limited options. Sorry, but the rest of my information here comes from Chat GPT, as it did such a good job of writing out the information, I thought it would be of benefit to you.,

So to answer your question, setting it up was a positive experience and pretty straightforward. I haven't proceeded with it, due to time constraints. Hope this was helpful. Positive Vibes

🎙️ Beginner's Guide: How to Start a Podcast (Step by Step)
If you’re starting a podcast for the first time, you might think you can record your voice and upload it to your website or YouTube. But podcasting has its system; to do it right, you’ll need a podcast hosting platform.

Let’s walk through it step by step 👇

âś… STEP 1: Understand What a Podcast Host Does

You can’t just upload your episodes anywhere — you need a special place for them to live.

A podcast host is a service that:

Stores your audio episodes

Creates something called an RSS feed (this is what podcast apps like Apple and Spotify read)

Distribute your episodes to all major platforms.

Tracks how many people are listening

Think of your podcast host like your central headquarters. You upload your episodes there, and they handle getting your podcast out to the world.

âś… STEP 2: Choose a Podcast Hosting Platform
Here are five trusted options (you only need one):

1. Libsyn
Longest-running, very reliable

Connects easily to Apple Podcasts

Plans start at $5/month

Great analytics and tools

2. Podbean
Very beginner-friendly

Free and paid plans available

Let's you earn money from your show.

3. Buzzsprout
Excellent for first-timers

Has a free plan (with limitations)

Automatically distributes to top platforms.

4. Spotify for Podcasters (formerly Anchor)
100% free

Owned by Spotify

Easy setup, with built-in money-making options

5. Captivate
Built for podcasters who want to grow fast

Clean design and great data tracking

Paid plans only

👉 Pick one and sign up — this is where you’ll upload your episodes.

✅ STEP 3: Know the Difference — Host vs. Directory
This part confuses a lot of beginners, so here’s the simple version:

Podcast Host Podcast Directory
Where do you upload your files? Where people find and listen to your show
Examples: Libsyn, Buzzsprout, Spotify for Podcasters. Examples: Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts
Creates your RSS feed, pulls your RSS feed, and displays your show

You upload your episode only to your host, and it automatically sends your show to Apple, Spotify, and other places.

✅ STEP 4: What Else You’ll Need
Now that you have a host, here’s what you need to record, edit, and promote your podcast:

🎧 Recording & Editing Tools
Audacity (Free for PC/Mac – basic and easy)

GarageBand (Free on Mac – great for beginners)

Descript (Paid – lets you edit audio like a Word doc, very smart)

Riverside.fm or SquadCast (Paid – for high-quality remote interviews)

🎙️ Microphone (Start Simple)
A good beginner mic: Blue Yeti or Rode NT-USB

These plug straight into your computer (no special equipment needed)

🎨 Podcast Cover Art
You need a square image – 3000x3000 pixels

Tools like Canva make this easy (you can use templates)

📢 Promotion Tools
Build an email list with ConvertKit or Mailchimp

Share your episodes with social media tools like Buffer or Later.

You can even build a podcast newsletter using Substack.

đź’ˇ Final Tip for Beginners
Podcasting can feel overwhelming at first, but if you focus on these three things, you’ll be off to a great start:

Choose a host and upload your episodes there.

Use a basic mic and a simple editing tool.

Create clear artwork and promote each episode.

Once that’s done, just hit publish and share your voice with the world 🌍🎧

Crackingly comprehensive answer, thank you so much

I like listening to podcasts, but I have never thought of doing one.

Will be thinking of you with Wimbledon coming up. Our family is into tennis.

I don’t do a “podcast” per se but more of a video show that I livestream broadcast on YouTube, LinkedIn and Facebook.

A podcast, in my opinion, is Audio only and on the typical platforms for podcasting. It was originally created because of the Apple iPod, hence the name podcast.

The key to a podcast or video show, is of course an audience that is interested in the topic. However, a lot of people broadcast their audio only podcast on YouTube just to increase their listenership.

The challenge, will be finding out and deciding where you want your podcast to live, because there are plenty of platforms and more growing.

My personal challenge with my video show is getting eyeballs on the videos. These days on the Internet, there are so many people creating blogs and websites and podcasts and video shows that it is hard to be noticed in the abyss of content.

The difficult hurdle to clear will be attracting interested and loyal viewers to your program.

I wish you the best of luck.🤞

Cheers Brad and already you have given me food for thought, with your very comprehensive answer. Thank You.
