What Do You Mean, "Forget The Money"?

Quite a few years ago when I was really struggling to make even a single dollar and no matter what I did nothing worked, a mentor said something during a webinar that rattled me.

Let me back up a wee bit and give you a picture of my mindset at that time.

Call Me "Cash Zero" Because That Was What I Earned

I didn't understand this business and so I expected at the time that I was going to be rich and it would come faster than anyone could ever imagine. I was going to be the "cash on demand" guy.

Yeah....right. I was more like "cash zero" guy.

I can laugh at it now and share funny stories of my grand delusional expectations because I know now how it really is.

But, back then I was desperate and one of my worst habits, I believe, was the constant checking my back office, PayPal account or Clickbank stats to see if I made money that day.

It's natural to want to do this all the time, but the thing was, every time I checked those accounts, guess what I found?

Yep, big fat earnings of nothing. Every day was "zero day" for me and so many times I wanted to give up.

It made no sense how other people were clearly progressing making more money day in and out yet I was doing what they were doing. I promoted the same deals they did, but I was spinning that hamster wheel at a speed of mach 1 making no progress at all.

Here is what I heard on that webinar that night. He said, those of you who are still struggling, here is one little bit of advice...

- Forget The Money.

Say what?

What the heck does that mean? This a business and isn't the whole point, TO MAKE MONEY?

I left the webinar and honestly I thought that was the dumbest statement I ever heard.

Forget the money. Pfff! I mean, what are we here for then? Jeez, I thought to myself sarcastically "why not forget the mortgage while I was at it.'

Then, a few days went buy and those silly words were repeating over and over in my head.

...Forget the money, forget the money, What does that mean?

And then I remembered hearing another successful person on a seminar talk about how money is simply the bi-product of what you're really trying to accomplish.

In other words, don't worry about the money, that will come later and now just focus on your daily actions building your business and soon enough those actions you are taking now WILL pay you down the road.

Now, I'm not saying to ignore your accounts for weeks or months. Obviously you have to check to see if you're getting the desired results and if need be, adjust strategies.

Instead, focus on something really simple but unbelievably powerful like, making it a personal goal to help at least 1 person a day solve their problem.

Besides, it is a much better feeling of accomplishment when you help someone with their struggles than it is to check your account balance every half to see if you made a sale today.

A few years ago, I watched documentary on the rich industrialists/inventors. An old woman, I don't recall which company or family she was part of, gave the advice of focusing on being the best, not the money. Be the best, she advised, and the money will follow.
