The New Years Resolutions and Why I Don't Make Them.

Well 2014 just ended and today is the first day of the New Year 2015. At 12:00 AM last night people all over the world were making New Years wishes and resolutions for what they wanted to happen or accomplish during 2015. People make New Years Resolutions but they majority of them don't last longer than a month or two and then they fall to the way side and get revisited again next New Years Eve.

I stopped making New Years Resolutions several years ago because I realized that I would never follow through on any of them. Instead I like to use New Years as a time of reflection of what I did accomplish during the year and celebrate my successes and learn from my failures. I do not make any new wishes or goals at midnight but rather continue on my overall vision of were I want to go in life.

We all make goals and set expectations of when we would like to accomplish those goals. Then life gets in the way and throws us a curve ball when we were anticipating a fastball and ready to hit it out of the park. This is when we have to be ready for the change and sit on the curve ball and drive it for a base hit rather than hitting it out of the park for a home run.

I have had to do this recently in my path of life. I first found and got started with Wealthy Affiliate in September of 2014. I was so excited I thought I was going to hit a home run right away. I started following the training's and reading other peoples posts on successes and failures they experienced. Then life happened and I was thrown a curve ball. My curve ball was family and career related which were things that I had no control over but at the same time I could not ignore them.

I had to take that curve ball and just get a base hit so I would be in a position to score for my team. I will have many more opportunities here at Wealthy Affiliate to hit a home run as long as I continue to stay in the game. One of my favorite Quotes is " Sucess is a Journey, not a Destination."

I am ready to continue my journey!!!

Happy New Year!!!!!

I understand your thoughts on New Year resolutions, really we should always be on a journey of growth and that is a daily journey! I also understand being thrown curve balls by life, but if we stay the course we will reach our destination and you will hit your home run! Happy New Year! Christa :)

Hi Christabelle,

I agree with you about staying the course. My analogy of the curve ball was just that but when people set New Years Resolutions and expect to achieve them but something in live happens they forget that sometimes just a base hit is still progress. You don't always have to hit the home run ball to have success!

Thanks for sharing! Happy New Year!!

I agree with you completely! Happy New Year!

I couldn't agree more. The way I see it, if you want to change something about yourself you should just do it rather than wait around for the new year. And like you said, it's too easy to just let them slip away in a few weeks.

New Year's resolutions also rely on sudden change which is very hard and unrealistic to maintain. Gradual change, on the other hand, is much more reasonable. As humans we are constantly growing, and it's better to slowly direct yourself towards goals than pretend like you can just flip a switch and instantly change who you are.

Happy New Years and good luck on your journey!

Absolutely JoaquinSelva. Everyone always wants to make drastic changes (hit a homerun) but if they would just take the time and change habits one at a time (hit a base hit) they will succeed in the end.

Thanks!

I like to make challenges instead of resolutions. I challenge myself to write a certain amount of articles or to do a certain thing by a certain date. If I don't meet the challenge I continue on it until I do. This way I have completed more things than if it was a resolution. I also don't feel like I have let myself down. So, I look at my challenges as to what I was able to accomplish. I also keep a journal of my accomplishments. This works for me. Also, I set small goals that lead up to the big goal. That way I also accomplish small steps that keep me excited and I know I will accomplish the bigger goal. But, I also don't set time limits either but demand of myself to produce.

Happy New Year to you too!

Thanks for posting Sherion. Making challenges is a great way to look at it as well. Good luck to you on accomplishing your challenges during the 2015 year!
