I think Google won't penalise you simply because you change your content - unless your content is worse (i.e. less engaging) than before, which I reasonably believe not.

this would include "heavy coding" which most of us simply don't know how to do.
While I know some coding, this is something I wouldn't know how to do.
Especially not in Wordpress, because there are ususally many scripts and (short) codes included that are way too complex for my knowledge.
I personally think that it wouldn't look good either, if your content suddenly spreads out under the widget area.
If you feel that your widget area takes up too much space, then you can try to find another theme that has a smaller widget area.
If you still want to change that, you can contact the support of your theme, but if you are on a free theme, you might not get the help you need.
I have a premium theme and get help there quickly.

I have to agree with you, after figuring out how to get the content to stretch into the widget area and effectively under it as well I realized that it didn't look good. However I still think it would be useful for my videos page, because then it could fit 3 videos to a row as opposed to 2 which looks pretty bad when it gets to where there is so much space left under the widget. I think the new videos widget I made should address the problem well enough though. Thank you for the response.

Always good to experiment with this kind of stuff.
If it looks bad you can always change it back to normal.
I simply used the Ctrl + f function to search for box-sizing and at the top of the CSS file was 3 lines of code that I believe pertain to different types of browsers and they were all set to border-box and I changed them to content-box. It makes the videos page look great but the test posts go into the widgets and since there are widgets in that space the post gets covered up so if you have widgets I wouldn't recommend it.

In the included picture the sidebar is the blue arrows and I would like it to end at the red line rather than the footer of the site allowing the site content (green lines) to expand underneath the widget area.

you are using flexslider for the main slider at the top of your page so I would assume that changing your images would be a matter of configuring this plugin.
You box elements are easy to change. I have attached an image of the code you would change. It would just be a matter of uploading an image to a draft post, copying the the code for the image in placing it in the correct line of code through your editor.
I have highlighted the place where you would enter your image code. You would do this for all of your box elements.
To find the correct code to change just go to your editor and search the line

For some reason, twice now, it has deleted half of my comment.
If you look at the code attached to the other comment you will see that in the templates it looks dramatically different than it does in the chrome console. I don't know how to edit the code in there to show my own images, and i fear that as the header titles all changed with one edit to one string of text, so too will the images, all change to be the same when I try to edit it. I feel that I will have to rewrite the element boxes somehow.
Also the flexslider is in the code so I have to configure it within there somehow, I'm not sure what to do there.
I would greatly appreciate it if you (or another person reading this) would take a look at the code and help me navigate my way through these issues. Thank you in advance!
I changed code from the inspect element part in chrome and came up with this result.
You can see I managed to place images with colors and dimensions within your site on the fly.
Without seeing your sites dashboard I can't really see whats going on.
Couple options come to mind. PM me and we can go from there
