6 months in, where has the time gone?
It has been six months since I went premium. Hard to believe it has been that long already. I have had a fair share of success, but a fair amount of struggles as well. Let's talk about the successes first.
I have a couple articles on page one of Google, which feels great! I am also getting constant traffic to my site because of this.
If you have read my previous blog, (around 2 weeks ago) you will remember that it was about making my first sale! Still excited about that, and during the next day after my first sale I made two more! Since that day I have not made any more sale, which is a slight let down, but I am still getting clicks and am confident that more sales will come.
I also started a YouTube channel. That is going well and my four year old son helps me make the videos. It is good for business and get some father / son time as well. We enjoy making videos and it has been helped with getting traffic to my site.
Now here are some of my struggles that have plagued me in my first six months.
I lost my motivation for a couple of months during the late summer. I hardly did anything to my website during those two months. It was a very busy time of my family and myself. We had several church events and family get togethers. Then still had to work full time.
I was tired and had no motivation. Luckily for me, I am a WA member and one day I was reading a blog about someone else who lost motivation and just knowing that someone else goes through the same thing, gave me back my motivation.
The biggest problem I still face is time. Time is like trying to hold snow in your bare hand by making a fist. The longer you hold it, the more the snow turns to water and drips out between your fingers. No matter what I do, I never seem to have enough time.
I work at least eight to five, five days a week and most weeks I work overtime as well. Then I have two awesome boys that I spend time with until they go to bed. So I usually only work on my website for a couple of hours a night and some nights I am too tired from work to do anything.
I enjoy writing, I wish I could quit my job and focus solely on my website. If it was just my wife and I, I might have quit to do this. For the last four years it has not been just my spouse and I, there are also two small mouths to feed, so I can't afford to quit. Not until this site makes more money at least.
There is my first six months at WA. It has been a fun ride, with plenty of ups and downs and I don't plan on leaving anytime soon.
Best wishes to all of you,
Dan

Dan,
I always thought 24 hours in a day was never enough time
myself - but then again we do need time to sleep :)
Thank you for sharing,
Susan
I am sure if our days were 34 hours long, we would still complain that we don't have enough time.
Thanks for commenting,
Dan

Hi, Dan. looks like you are making very good progress, it can be hard when we are working full time and trying to have that quality family time as well. Your boys are young for such a short time it is such a special time for any family.
The main thing is that you are still going, many have fallen by the wayside, at night at the end of the day when that brain freeze kicks in it is hard to be creative, through that time I just did what I could, started the week with a solid plan of what I wanted to accomplish in the beginning it wasn't much, at all, just a case of building as we go. Imagine what another 6 months will look like for you.
One of my breakthroughs was just accepting that is the way it was at that time, kind of lifts the weight off your shoulders, from what you have written you have a definite desire to make this work.
Looking forward to reading about your successes.
Thank you. I try to start each week with a plan and I try to keep it small, given the time I have. Most weeks just don't go according to plan! Oh well, it is the way of life.
Take care,
Dan
I hear what you are saying there Dan, keep going and you will get there.
