What is Google Alert

I'm still learning using Online Entrepreneur Certification (OEC) from Wealthy Affiliate (WA). My yesterday lesson was regarding “Leveraging Product Reviewing. According to this article “ the best way to stay informed is to setup a Google Alert.”

I’ve no idea before yesterday about Google Alert. For such reason I would like to learn more about it. Finally, I am able to produce this short blog in WA and would like to share for you as a member of WA.

Google Alert is one of the Google products. It was launched on August 6, 2003. Google Alert is a simple email notification service that sends “Alerts” to us whenever it finds “New Results” based on our chosen search terms and queries. The “Alerts” include:

  1. Web pages/results
  2. Google group results
  3. Newspaper articles
  4. Blogs
  5. Scientific researches

Despite all its continued critical performance issues and temporarily regional unavailability, still Google Alert help us when it finds new results that match our research term(s).

Steps to set up Google Alerts

  1. Go to www.google.com/alert
  2. Let Google know the search term you want to be updated. Enter the term or topic you want new result in the “Create an alert about” box.
  3. Set how often you want to receive these alerts. You have three choices: (i) As-it happens, (ii) At most once a day, and (iii) At most once a week.
  4. Tell to Google the type of sources. In this case you have the following sources: Blogs, News, Web, Video, Discussion, Finance or Automatic.
  5. Type the Language you prefer and the part of the world/region you want that information from.
  6. Choose how many times you want to access your results. You can choose either “All results” or “Only the best results.
  7. Tell Google where to send the new result in the enter email box.
  8. Click on create alert. Then, you will get emails whenever Google find matching search results.
  9. Repeat step 1-8 for other queries.

By the way, as indicated in the OEC learning article, WA also have a WA Alert. This WA Alert help us to get notification whenever one of our members create a new page.

To sum up, I found it helpful to have a Google Alert to our content development as well as niche market.
