How do keywords drive traffic to your site?
I've been seeing this question a lot around the WA community. It seems that not everyone fully understands how keywords or phrases will drive traffic to your site. So I'm going to see if i can't shed some light on it for you.
A keyword or phrase is something you research that is relative to your niche. It is a subject that you will elaborate on. For example, if i wanted to ultimately sell weight loss supplements, i would have to create content about weight loss supplements. So you need to research a keyword that is directly related, with minimal competition and a decent amount of traffic. You can do this research in Jaaxy or the Google Keyword Tool.
Now, say you've found a keyword that fits that criteria. Lets use "the best weight loss supplements" as our example. Lets say that "the best weight loss supplements" gets 4500 exact searches per month, and only has a few other sites ranking for that word. Now, the goal is to tap into those 4500 monthly searches, and route them to your site. How do you do this?
The next step is to write quality, original content that is both factual, and includes your personal perspective about "the best weight loss supplements". Include your keyword in the header, and maybe once or twice in the body, but don't over use it. Just write freely.
If your content is quality and original, that page will begin to rank for the keyword "the best weight loss supplements", and the higher it ranks, the more you will tap into those 4500 searches per month, because when people type "the best weight loss supplements" into their browser, they will begin to see your page on that, and thus leading to them clicking on your site.
Engaging, Original Content = Traffic = Sales = Happy Affiliate
Obviously this is just an example, but I hope that I was able to give some clarity on the subject.
