3 Rookie Mistakes To Avoid in Achieving Your Big Dream
We have come to Wealthy Affiliate portal propelled by a dream. Be it the dream of securing a passive income, building a sustainable business or even that of living life on your own terms.
Some dreams are bigger than others, but they are still dreams waiting to be actualized.
These 3 missteps have the potential to rob you of the realization of your dreams.
Skimming through the OEC course
The Online Entrepreneurship Certification course is Wealthy Affiliate’s flagship course that covers everything you need to know about Affiliate Marketing.
It’s complete and sequentially put together.
Don’t be afraid you will be overwhelmed. It was a legitimate concern of mine when I first started
Kyle & Carson, however, have ensured the course is fed to you in bite sized pieces to eliminate the fear of overwhelm. Hands-on, skill building assignments have been thrown in to break the monotony of reading and allow you to try your hands on the practical side.
Come to think of it, building a website is a hands-on activity.
The mistake you are likely to make on the outset is to skim through the OEC course so you can finish fast. A second mistake is to avoid the assignments at the end of the modules. Big mistake! The expectation is that you will go through the course step by step with no step skipped.
Do not attempt to finish reading the course in one or two days. I have seen a few individuals attempt to do so. The problem is I simply stopped seeing them after they had ‘ supposedly’ finished the course.
You are required to do a deep dive and not skim through the certification course. When you are done, treat it as a go-to reference book that you constantly refer to while working on your site.
Avoid Inflated Expectations
Tamp down your expectations. Your earning comes from the sum total of the knowledge you have gained on the WA platform and used in building and monetizing your website/s.
Making money in Affiliate Marketing is not as easy as turning on a faucet and letting 'greenbacks' flush the bathroom floor! Forget all the phony promises the fake gurus made about money on autopilot in affiliate marketing. It’s just not true. They may want to sell you some shiny object and are trying to soften you up so you can part with your hard-earned money!
After all, even in a day job, you are expected to put in some work before you receive compensation. How come in Affiliate Marketing, you want to start making money even before you implement what you have learned?
Be invested for the long haul. Like any other enterprise, you will have your fair share of disappointments. Do not be discouraged and give up
Your earnings will start out as a trickle and as you persist in implementing what you have learned, the dam that separates you from your earnings will burst, prompted by the weight of your traffic and conversions and you will experience a torrent of passive earnings.
When that peak period will occur depends on many variables, some of which are outside of your control. But as long as you are consistent in your application, it is bound to happen.
One thing is clear: the more massively, you implement your newly acquired online marketing knowledge, the more massive will be your earnings.
Your Niche is not an X-Box!
Take some time in deciding on a niche. It’s like a rut. You will be in it for a long while so make sure you dig it well.
Pick a niche you are passionate about, so that on a day you are unmotivated and you don’t feel like working on your site, your passion will drive you through.
Do not make the rookie mistake I made of confusing a niche with a product like X-box or even an income source like Affiliate Marketing because it is not!
A niche is a group of people bound together by a bond or problem. The more you understand their problem, the more you can feel their pain, the better will be your ability to prescribe solutions. The better you get at doing this, the more they will gravitate towards you.
Look for your niche wherever they may be on the internet. If they belong to a forum, take some time and join so you can observe them as an insider and get to know them better.
Do not go looking for an amorphous group of people just because you want a large niche. The more specific you are in defining this group of individuals, the more effective you will be in helping your tribe.
What other missteps, newbie or otherwise do you think can withold one from realizing their big dream?
Please share it with the community.

The other issue I often see is people choosing a niche based on the commissions they can earn. 99% of the WA members are not yet strong enough writers to "write about anything" and thus foolishly believe that they can write a convincing article about something they know nothing about. That's a straight path to failure!
Some people bite more than they can chew and settle for a niche they do not have the expertise in just because of the money. We should allow our passion and knowledge to guide us in picking a niche to write for. It should not be solely monetary consideration.
Thank you so much. I appreciate your comment.
Good advice! The main one that most do is rush through the lessons and then those who scheme through and label Wealthy Affiliate a scam as they don't take their time.
May you have great success

They should bear the greater blame for not taking the time to read through carefully and implement what they have learned
Wealthy Affiliate is not a scam by any stretch of imagination. It is the premier online marketing education platform bar none!
You are absolute right Dada!!!!
Nothing is worse than just rushing to finish the course, as this is NOT a race!
And the knowledge that you get from the training will stay with you throughout. And that's the way you can help the newbies !!!
Cheers,
Maria
I fail to see the reason why anybody should be in a head-on rush to finish the course as if they are in a competition to see who will finish first.
Exactly!!! In my situation, I am still doing the training, as I am trying to build my website too. And what Kyle is saying is really true in all aspects of the training!!!
I am following him to a tee! And I am not on a race! I am enjoying my journey!!!!!
Although, I must be honest, I haven’t worked this hard as far as I can remember!!!!!

Very well written and great advice — we ALL have made these mistakes. We want things to happen super fast.
Also, I have one more to add on top of Stephen’s below — and that is the “size or audience” of your niche DOES MATTER!
Your never going to compete with the mega sites like Amazon or any of the other well established mega sites.
Think smaller (hence the word niche or boutique) — then grow vertically and scale-up. You need to be very defined in your niche, then go answer the questions that searchers are looking for!
Best of luck…
