GreenGeeks looks great for hosting but they say they are having trouble getting my site moved over to them. Has anyone else moved hosting from WA to them?

Hey Cyndi,

There should be no issues if you provided them with a backup file of your website so that all of your content would be restored on their server.

Here's the plugin I recommend you use: Then, if their support staff entered in the correct nameservers there should be no issues. Maybe you keep your site hosted here.

They didn't ask for backup files, they are handling the whole migration thing at no charge with a one-year plan.

I just took screenshots of the information that I can see and sent it to them. I had given them some of it, but they were still having trouble so I sent something else I came across under settings.

The main reason I want to switch is that for $59.40 a year, I can host unlimited websites as opposed to $49 a month here.

Well, look at that, I had just sent that additional information less than 10 minutes ago and suddenly just got an email that it's done! Honestly, they were asking me to give them my info to log in here to my account and I did NOT want to do that. But it looks like they figured it out.

Thanks, if I do move it again, I'll be ready with backup files (which I know I should have anyway).

Yes... but you will discover you will have a bandwidth restriction, no SSL certificate and you will need to add a cache plugin in order to gain somewhat the speed your site gets with the WA hosting.

Not to mention a lack of quality support when needed.

GreenGeeks has unlimited bandwidth and storage, WA shows bandwidth as 500K Visitors/Mth. They also have free Let's Encrypt Wildcard SSL. I'm not up on all the particulars of speed thing, but I'm sure they're at least on a par with each other, with no added plugins.

I've only had to contact Site Support here a couple of times, and both times they answered quickly. But today when I asked for my ftp credentials, they said they had "enabled" that and kindly sent me a link to my domain info page here which I had been looking at for 2 days and there was nothing different about it. There was no "enabling" of anything. Either they didn't know that information was already available to me (which would be bad), or thought I didn't know about it, so wouldn't know they hadn't "enabled" anything (also bad).

GreenGeeks got things done literally within minutes once I sent them what they needed (I don't know exactly what it was, I sent two bits of information). I was pretty miffed that they didn't at least say "we need this" and give me a chance to look for it before wanting to get in here and bumble around, but they have at least been quick in writing back, several times today. I really can't see that their support will be inferior to that here at WA.

Site Support here does respond quickly, but the only way I know to reach them is by email, and I know it's 24/7, but GreenGeeks has support available by email, live chat, and phone, also available 24/7.

Lucky you with having an American web hosting company offering these goodies for. But... there's another little tidbit that even I keep being confused about... and that is most sites reach a resource limit long before they reach a bandwidth limit and THAT is where most web hosts will catch website owners.

WordPress sites tend to use a LOT of server resources... so, the more resources your site needs, the more often you will discover your site has reached it's resource limit and is not available until the time limit is reached.

My business site is hosted out of Toronto only because it is important that a local business uses a local host so that Google will share a site in local searches... else I'd have move it too to WA.

That host offers NOTHING extra, and sooooo may times now, I get the Resource Limit Reached prompt and I'm out of business for a spell... unless, of course, I'd like to pay a lot more to prevent this happening.

Can you imagine a successful affiliate marketing website being stopped due to Resources being maxed out? To me, this feels like my site is being held hostage, so I'm here to stay with WA.

Anyway, best wishes to you and your new California based host. :-))

Does anyone have an email address or know who I can contact for a billing question? (This is not a getting started question even though it may appear under the Getting Starte

Hi Cyndi, the best way is to find out some information is to go through the contact page. It can take a little time for a reply we just need to take the different time zones into consideration.

https://www.wealthyaffiliate.com/contact

Thanks, Alex. I was able to send a message, now just waiting to hear back.

try
https://wealthyaffiliate.com/contact
the categories are billing and general inquiry
I hope you manage to get it isorted

I have found some photos I'd like to use on a site called Maxpixel. They are free for personal or commercial use, but require a link referral. How and where would I do this?

For my referrals I include the link where I got the photo from with the owners name beside it. As long as you credit them for their work and do not portray that they endorse you, it should be a piece of cake!

Hi Cyndi. I just checked it out and downloaded an image. This site has sketchy ads attached to it. When I clicked free download, another tab opened with AdFly. If you wait a couple seconds and then click "skip ad" at the top right corner, your image will download.
You might get additional downloads for Flash. I did, but just ignore it.
Have you tried Pexels.com or Pixabay.com You might like them better? No Ads!
Cheers,
Suzanne

I downloaded the picture I wanted to use, and went through the same thing. I really don't know what to think of that, and haven't decided if I'll use it or not. But the thing is that my site is about dressing up dogs and believe me, I have looked everywhere I can find for completely free (not even any attribution required), I have a long list of sites. There just aren't many completely free pictures of dogs in clothes.

I'm being very careful. Even Pixabay relies on the honesty of their contributors in saying they own the rights to the photos they upload. But there really are a lot of photos out there that say free with attribution, I'm just uncertain exactly what to do.

Thanks for actually going there and checking it out, I appreciate it!

If I ever use a pic that needs attribution, I type “courtesy of .....” or the sites name and link it to the site itself. I’ll place it right under the image. :)

Thanks, Suzanne, I'll do something like that. I have read the actual Creative Commons licensing guidelines and just for attribution they make it look like you need a lot! It was kind of intimidating, but maybe I was just making it too complicated.

You could use the product's key features and description as a reference point to create your own content about it.

Never copy/paste directly from the product page, instead create unique content that explains how these features help!

I'm loving Elementor but still very new to it. Looking for opinions on using it for posts.

Thank you all, that was fast! I was leaning towards not using it on posts but that only came from one post somewhere. It also recommended making back-up -- I think archive -- posts with the regular editor in case something happened. Consensus seems to be don't or use sparingly and cautiously on posts, and check out what Gutenberg can do. If time permits, I might use a SiteRubix site for practice and to go all in and play around with all of this and be prepared to lose it all if something bad happens.

Thanks again everyone!

Hi,
I have used it but I prefer the page builder. Elementor is ok but doesnt work well with windows 10. It only seems to work with chrome and Firefox and I think Safari.
All in all some people love it. Some people dont.
Debs :)

Hi Cynthia,
I have used Elementor but not intensively.
Elementor is a great tool to customize pages or a group of posts or create landing page. My recommendation is to create posts using the normal wordpress editor. Elementor is great for styling but when it comes to content, you want concentrate on writing a great content.

Let see what others got to say.

:)Joe

I use elementor to build pages and posts. I don't use it on all of my posts. I do use it when I need more structure. I love elementor. I find it easy to use.

I wrote a review on Elementor if you would like to read it then please PM me and I will give you the link.

As for Gutenberg, you do not have to use it. I have tried it and find it to be fragmented in its design. It is difficult to switch from editor to Gutenberg and back.

Laura

I've only used Elementor to customize the look of product pages for my e-commerce site. Haven't tried it for blog posts yet, but it could be useful to give your site it's own unique look.

I don't use any page builders, but if were thinking of usine one — I would definitely not start now — because we are likely only days away from Wordpress updating to gutenburg, which is by in large a page builder.

Very good point Mike!

I used Element or to create a landing page, but I'm by no means an expert. I went to Click Funnels and use their premade templates now.
I may reconsider after I see Gutenberg, and check the optimizations in it. But for now, I'm happy with Click Funnels.
Best of success!
Mike

Thanks, Mike - I don't even know what Click Funnels is, though I've heard of it. I thought it was probably for driving traffic to your site (?). I'll check them out, the templates sound interesting, and it never hurts to know about different options.
