Life Will Never Be the Same Again . Part 1. Defining Your Life's Purpose

When you make a commitment to yourself, and then follow through with that commitment you feel a great sense of pride and fulfillment. It doesn't matter what you have chosen to do in your life. But once you have made that choice then be passionate about it.

So many people just wander through their lives not living with any true purpose. But purpose is what will motivate you each and every day as your feet hit the floor. In my counselling with my clients in my Business Success Coaching one of the first things that is always talked about is the clients Life Purpose, what is their reason for being? Because if we don't know what our purpose is then we are nothing more than a wandering generality. But to truly succeed we need to become a Charging Specific.

So today please allow me to help you define your life purpose, now this will be the first installment of this post as we make our way through defining a couple things, the first being our life purpose or our reason for being, it is a soul searching journey; the second being writing the story of our life; the third being to consolidate that story into a short narrative (an elevator speech if you will) so that we can stand at the top of the mountain and tell the world exactly why we are here.

So let's get to the meat and potatoes of this.

The following questions are specifically designed to help you find out what is truly important in your life, what matters, and what will drive and motivate you to the highest levels of success;

This ollowing exercise is designed to give you an idea of the type of questions you need to ask yourself to find true happiness in life and the basis of this book. Of course this is just a sample so feel free to let your mind run wild and ask and answer of yourself any questions that you feel appropriate.

So first write your question followed by your answer in your journal. Of course if you don’t currently keep a journal, then this might be a great time to start. But the most important part of this exercise is to enjoy the experience. Take your time and thoroughly search your heart and soul. I assure you if you have never done this before that you will uncover some facts about yourself that you never knew.

In order to properly assess your true life purpose you need to understand exactly what it is in life that you love doing, what you are currently doing in your life, and in order for you to become happier in your life what exactly needs to change.

So here are the sample questions:

At what times and in what circumstances did you experience true happiness in your life?

What do you love to do in your free time or while at work?

Have you accomplished anything in your life that made you feel especially proud of yourself?

What are the qualities that you most admire in other people and why?

Is there anything in your life that invigorates you and makes you feel more alive? Something that you are truly passionate about.

Rate your level of happiness overall (On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being ecstatic and 1 being depressed)

Are you overjoyed to be alive? YES NO

Do you wake up in the morning looking forward to facing your day? YES NO

Would you say that you are neither happy nor sad? YES NO

Do you go through you day and just can’t wait till quitting time. YES NO

If you could change one thing in your life that you believe would make you happy what would it be?

If you could change one thing about the world what would it be?

Is there anything that you do naturally well? Are you an artist, a good listener, a designer? Consider anything that you do effortlessly.

Can you list 10 of your greatest successes so far in your life? (not what other people think but what you think personally)

Can you list 10 life lessons that you have learned that impacted your life?

Are there certain things that other people often seek your help with, if so what are they?

If you could do anything knowing that you could not possibly fail what would it be?

If money was not an object what dream would you pursue first?

If you knew you only had one month to live, what would you do first?

If you were charged with writing your own eulogy what would you say about you? What would you want others to remember you for?

As you picture yourself 20-30 years or more into the future are you happy, and living a fulfilled life knowing that you lived a good productive life, or you wallowing in self-pity, and WHY?


These questions of course have now given you a base point from which to build, to define and write your life’s purpose and then subsequently your Personal Mission Statement.

Now as you go through this exercise have some fun with it, let your mind run wild. Make the commitment to yourself today to define your life purpose.

Thanks for the feedback Damian after all when we write anything if it falls on blind eyes we never know whether or not we are on track.

Good questions, tough answers sometimes

That is true, but it is the tough answers that will define our true life purpose, and once you have that part done it only get's easier to live a successful life.
