My goal - Do SOMETHING every day

Hey y’all!

I have found myself lately in the worst moods. There are times at night when I am so tired that’s I don’t want to dedicate any time to my website.

I know that I can’t afford to do this because I need to dedicate as much time as possible to my freedom day!

Oh you don’t know what my freedom day is? Well let me explain.

For years I have known that I’m not meant to work in the corporate world for the rest of my life. I was in my twenties when I started promising everyone that by the time I was 40 I would be retired and traveling the world.

I have not given up on this goal....which is why I know that I have to make a goal to do SOMETHING every day to build and promote my site. I am going to list some of my goals here in this blog post because it is important to have your goals in writing.

Why write your goals

I read somewhere that writing your goals makes them more tangible. We can think about our goals as much as we want, that also gives us more of an out when we don’t achieve them.

Writing your goals down also makes you more accountable. You see it and read it and it makes you feel like you have to do it.

Have SMART goals

I know that the title of this posts just suggests I will do SOMETHING every day, but I have to make sure that my goals are SMART goals.

The acronym SMART stands for

Specific

Measurable

Attainable

Relevant

Time based

You may have seen this acronym before at your jobs or even in other posts. The words may differ slightly but they all have close to the same meaning.

When writing out your goals make sure that they are:

Specific - saying I will do SOMETHING every day is not very specific. I have to say I will write at least 500 words per day towards building a blog post.

Measurable - again just saying I will write something isn’t enough. Push yourself to a measurable goal. You have to quantify it or you will cheat yourself. Give yourself a number of words per day or number of hours per day that you will dedicate. Just don’t forget to be specific ;)

Attainable- If you know that writing ten posts per day is not attainable then don’t set that goal. Set a realistic goals so that you can celebrate your wins. DONT set yourself up for failure.

Relevant - make sure that your daily goals are relevant to your overall goal. Setting a goal to exercise every morning is a great goal, but if exercise isn’t relevant to building your site, it doesn’t help your overall goal.

Time based - give yourself a limit or you will push things back or place other things in front of your goals. Saying I will have X amount of words by X date gives you a lot more accountability than I will write something for one of my posts.

A good written smart goal for your site building may be “I will write at least 500 words per day this week so that by the end of the week I will have enough content to complete at least two published posts to my site.”

This goal is

specific- tells exactly what you’re going to do (write 500+ words daily)

Measurable - minimum 500 words, 2 posts

Attainable - you can write 500 words per day

Relevant - you need to write posts for content for your site

Time based - by the end of the week (you could get even more specific and say “by Saturday night”)

So I will be following this model. I will be writing my SMART goals down and continuing to build my site. My goals are important for me to gain the freedom I’m looking to attain.

Hope this helps you as well.

Luv

~Cris

Great insight, Cris! The formula you have set up is particularly helpful!

Great post Cris! I wrote a blog post last week with almost the exact same headline. I push myself to do something everyday without being too specific about it. I do keep a to-do list but that's it. My engineer brain likes the SMART acronym and what it stands for. Great tips that I will be implementing!

Awesome....great minds! I look forward to following your blog

I think following your own good advice will get you your freedom!

A good blog post and a good goalpost will do the job!

Hello Cris, and you are so wise to set your goals this way. This is our own business we are all setting up and we have to dedicate the time to it to achieve the freedom we want. We really love your acronym. All the best to you and thanks for this inspiring post. Colette and Philip

Love the acronym, try to set a goal list for each day, with an extra one for the week.

Great post Chris
