hi everyone I just wanted to share an experience my wife had this week that got me thinking you see my wife saw an advert on tv showing some poor children suffering and decided to make a donation which you might think is a humane kind thing to do I agree but i was taken aback when I returned home the next evening to find that she had been called by this charity thanking her for her donation and would she sign up for a regular payment my wife explained that she would donate when she could and didn't want to be duty bound by a direct debit it took a whole half an hour trying to politely say no and she she said she ended up having to get a little annoyed with him . I believe these people are not only plucking the heart strings of nice people but are exploiting the very needy after reading this how do you feel I know I'd like to use 1of my web sites nor for personal gain but to put a stop to this gross industry any suggestions please ??

This is how they draw you in. I did the same thing once, different organization, many years ago, and they still call a couple of times a year. I've gotten over just saying firmly and politely, no. I've asked them to remove my name from their list, but they never do. To make it worse, I swear they've sold my information to other charitable organizations! My standard response now is that I have a policy never to make donations or pledges to anything over the phone, and no, they may not have my home address or my email. It doesn't stop them from trying, but I have my policy in place.

It really is a sorry state of affairs. Them poor children ....I will end up doing a site even if it just names and shames and maybe even where the genuine public can rank them . So that they need to sharpen up .

I never named the charity on purpose but its a very large 1you wouldn't expect them sort of antics from

On the contrary, I expect big charities are the absolute worst.

Every charity has costs, and some of the money collected go to offset those costs. "Big charities" have "big costs" and are often the worst.

In my opinion, if one is TRULY interested in impacting a region, then he/she should reach out to local (to that region) religious institutions, regardless of denomination.

Local religious institutions typically know intimately where charity is needed, often down to the person who needs it.

Yeah I get that .such a shame we can't simply let the good connect with the bad without going through the ugly.

It is frustrating. There are many "charities" that are set up to line the pockets of the founders.

Some reports show that less than 10% of the money collected actually goes toward "the cause".

There are good ones of course.

Creating an organization to report on the good vs the bad and working toward some transparency could be a very useful site.

There are some out there, not to say you shouldn't do it yourself, just meaning there could be some good collaboration.

Maybe go for a .org TLD.
