It is the content that makes it all come together. So whatever you want for your domain can be a .com, .net, .org, or dot whatever. It is ultimately your quality content, comments and interaction, and how you help people that will bring you traffic.
If you find a domain you like you can register it and move your SiteRubix website there to the new premium domain anytime. If you know what you want I'd almost say go for it. It's not too expensive. Just stick with it and build out the site once you decide on it. You can do it.

It is best to go ahead and build your own. a dot com is the best and easiest to rank, .net is next
